Cream-Red Bus Loses Control, Hits Expressway Barrier, 13 Injured
A cream-red Bangkok bus veered off the Si Rat Expressway and struck a barrier, injuring 13 passengers. Investigators found a detached front leaf‑spring bracket caused the loss of control, ruling out a tire blowout. The driver tested negative for drugs and the bus, registered in 1991, had passed its latest safety check in May 2026.
On October 17, 2026, the Nonthaburi Provincial Transport Office reported that a Bangkok city bus, license plate 11-8221, operating on route 1-7E from Rangsit to Sanam Luang, lost control and collided with the barrier on the Si Rat Expressway bound for Chaeng Watthana Road, at the entrance to Wat Buakhwan. The accident left 13 people injured, with one in serious condition and two under close observation. Following the crash, officers from Rangsit Police Station and vehicle inspectors examined the bus and discovered that the front leaf‑spring bracket bolt had come loose and the lock separating the front axle from the leaf spring had detached. This caused the front wheel to lose control, pulling the left side of the bus backward and steering it left into the expressway barrier; the incident was not caused by a tire blowout. Authorities said they will send the broken bracket and lock to NDT for further analysis to determine whether the failure occurred before or after the crash. Drug screening of the driver showed no presence of illicit substances. The bus details: license plate 11-8221, Bangkok, registered September 9, 1991, tax expiration June 30, 2027, last safety inspection May 18, 2026; operator is the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority under permit No. Kor. Tor. 40/2567 valid until March 19, 2031, with the authority as the registered owner. Three injured passengers remain under close medical supervision and have been coordinated with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority for insurance coverage.
