Customer Shocked by Electrical Discharge at Buffet Restaurant
A woman suffered severe electrical shock while serving curry at a buffet restaurant in July, causing ongoing nerve damage and chest pain; the restaurant blamed faulty wiring and offered minimal compensation.
On July 10, 2024, the Facebook page Drama-addict posted a warning after a customer's girlfriend suffered an electrical shock at a buffet restaurant on July 1 at 4:50 p.m. While using a stainless steel ladle to serve curry from a heated metal tray, she was struck by electrical current and experienced chest pain and body tremors. Even a staff member who touched the tray was shocked. She was taken to a public hospital 10 kilometers away, received pain medication, and was discharged.
The following day, her condition worsened. A private hospital examination revealed nerve and muscle damage with an uncertain recovery timeline. She continues to experience hand tremors and chest pain daily. The man and his girlfriend have had to take time off work for medical appointments and specialist follow-ups.
After the incident, the restaurant discovered faulty electrical wiring causing the leak. The establishment offered one free meal and 5,000 baht compensation plus actual medical expenses covered by social security insurance. The customer expressed that this compensation is inadequate given the ongoing impact on daily life, work, childcare, and the family's mental health. He urged all restaurants to inspect and repair electrical system hazards to prevent similar incidents.
