Cyber Police Remand Crime Victims Club Chief on Fraud Charges
Cyber police have remanded Atchariya Weungrattanapong, chairman of the Crime Victims Assistance Club, on fraud, computer crime, money laundering and illegal boxing gambling charges. He maintains he can answer all allegations and claims there is a hidden order behind the case. Relatives, his legal team and Colonel Doctor Thawatchai Kanjanarin visited him at Thung Song Hong Police Station, bringing food and documents.
Cyber police detained Atchariya Weungrattanapong and sent him to the Criminal Court for remand after completing interrogation. He said he could explain every point and alleged there was a hidden order, quoting his comment about boxing gambling. He faces charges of public fraud, Computer Crime Act violations, money laundering, and illegal boxing gambling. On October 5, 2026, at 08:00, relatives, presumed to be his lawyers and wife, arrived at Thung Song Hong Police Station with court documents for him to read and sign. Colonel Doctor Thawatchai Kanjanarin, former surgeon at Phramongkutklao Hospital, also came to visit, having missed the previous day's visiting hours; he brought a bottle of water and a set of grilled pork for Atchariya, and more than 20 sets of grilled pork with sticky rice for journalists waiting to cover the remand hearing. Thawatchai said he came to give encouragement after arriving late the day before, noting that people had criticized his comparison of Atchariya to Nelson Mandela, but he felt compassion for anyone suffering and joy for those happy. He added that he did not ask about case details, only about Atchariya’s health and medication, as the latter suffers from hypertension, and about his future plans after the legal proceedings. When asked whether Atchariya had mentioned possible harassment, Thawatchai said he was unaware of any such plot, though Atchariya told him he had never solicited donations or conducted any publicity. Thawatchai also said that such situations could change, likening money transfers to friends who might later act under others’ orders, while insisting Atchariya remained sincere because his social media channels had been shut down. He confirmed that the LINE chat evidence could be verified.
