Democrat Leader Delivers Aid to Flooded Rama IX Village
Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva distributed relief supplies to residents of flooded Rama IX Village on September 28, criticizing the government's slow response and calling for better coordination of aid efforts.
On September 28, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, joined list-system MP Chuan Leekpai in wading through floodwaters in Rama IX Village to distribute survival kits, dry food, and drinking water to flood victims. Abhisit said the party had prepared relief supplies since morning to distribute to affected residents, noting that many people in several areas still had no access to government assistance for more than 48 to 70 hours despite efforts by volunteers and various agencies. The most urgent improvement needed from the government is coordination, he said, hoping that the Prime Minister's visit to the area would lead to better system management. While some residents have begun evacuating, travel out of the area remains difficult. Abhisit stressed that the priority now is to rapidly mobilize aid to relieve immediate suffering, with other management and early-warning issues to be addressed later.
