Education Ministry Cracks Down: Scout Uniforms Now Only Require Neckerchief and Hat—Schools Must Comply or Face Consequences
Thailand's Education Ministry is allowing students to wear scout uniforms with just a neckerchief and hat instead of full uniforms, reducing costs for families while holding schools accountable for compliance.
At noon on May 5, 2025, Education Minister Prasert Chantaravangtong clarified that the policy does not abolish scout uniforms but rather eliminates the requirement to purchase complete uniforms. Students may now wear just a neckerchief and hat with their regular school or PE uniforms. A small exception applies to honor guard scouts, who must purchase full uniforms as their rank requires. The policy will be implemented through a ministerial circular to schools, educational institutions, and private schools rather than as a formal regulation. The ministry will monitor implementation and hold school principals accountable for compliance, with consequences for schools that fail to respond to complaints.
