Egg Prices Poised to Hit 4 Baht as Feed Costs Soar

Egg prices are set to jump to 4 baht per unit as feed costs surge and poultry disease cuts output by 20 percent, with pork prices also expected to climb sharply as farmers face mounting production costs.

Egg Prices Poised to Hit 4 Baht as Feed Costs Soar
4 Aug Khaosod

Egg and pork farmers are preparing to raise farm-gate prices in response to surging animal feed costs. Mixed-grade eggs are expected to climb to 4 baht per unit, while pork is projected to reach 70–78 baht per kilogram.

Phayyao Arikun, chairwoman of the Central Small-Scale Egg Farmers' Association, revealed that farms are currently battling poultry disease, which has slashed egg output by 20 percent. Last week, animal feed prices rose by 6 baht per 30-kilogram sack, jumping from 440 to 446 baht. This has driven up production costs while egg yields fall and shortages emerge in some areas. Although current farm-gate prices for mixed eggs stand at 3.80 baht per unit, traders have already maxed out sales at that ceiling. A further increase of 20 satang per unit—bringing prices to 4 baht per egg—is expected soon. Farmers, however, are hoping to delay price hikes as long as possible to support consumers.

Sittipan Tanakiartiphiyo, chairman of the National Swine Farmers' Association, indicated that on August 5 the association and its partners will discuss pork prices again. There is a strong likelihood that live-pig prices will rise another 2 baht per kilogram, pushing farm-gate pork to 70–78 baht per kilogram, with any adjustment taking effect on August 6.

The cost pressures stem mainly from soaring feed-ingredient prices. Corn, a primary feed input, has climbed from 9 baht to 13 baht per kilogram. Soybean meal, another crucial ingredient, has jumped from 13 to 17 baht per kilogram. Wheat and rice prices have also risen. At the same time, pork supplies are tightening relative to consumer demand.

A 43-year-old former deputy district chief was found dead in a sealed rental room in Phayao Province, with police suspecting suicide linked to charges he faced for forging 467 government identity documents.

Former District Officer Found Dead in Rental Room
4 Aug Khaosod

At 11:00 a.m. on August 4, police received a report of a death in a rental room in Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. Officers, rescue workers, and a duty physician responded to the scene and found the room locked from the inside. After breaking down the door, they discovered the body of Sitthichai, age 43, a former deputy district chief of Chiang Khong District in Chiang Rai Province, who had faced charges for forging 467 government identity documents.

The deceased was found lying on the floor beside a bed with his feet resting on the bed edge. Tape was discovered sealing the entrance and kitchen door. Officers also found three telephone numbers written and placed on a table near a stove. No signs of physical assault were found in the surrounding area.

According to investigating officer Pol. Maj. Thanad Chumamanao, the room showed no signs of a struggle, and both entry and exit doors were sealed with tape. The room owner reported that the deceased had spoken by phone with his mother before his voice changed, and later when the mother called back and received no answer, she contacted the landlord, who discovered the body. Police believe the stress stemming from the forgery case involving over 467 forged identity documents, combined with his dismissal from civil service, may have been the cause. Further investigation with relevant parties is planned.

Pak Mool Residents Plan Bangkok Protest Over Dam

Pak Mool residents plan a Bangkok march demanding year-round dam gate openings to restore fish populations and ecosystems, citing minimal power generation benefits against significant tourism and livelihood losses.

Pak Mool Residents Plan Bangkok Protest Over Dam
4 Aug Khaosod

Residents from Pak Mool are preparing to march to Bangkok to demand government action on ecosystem restoration and year-round dam gate opening. Following the Pak Mool fish festival on August 8, 2568, villagers representing the Poor Assembly movement will present demands including compensation for dam impacts and expansion of the dam's operating period to align with fish migration seasons, beginning in April. A coordinator revealed that the dam's 36-year history shows minimal economic benefit from power generation, while opening gates in April alone generated nearly 300 million baht in tourism revenue at Kaeng Saphan rapids, suggesting year-round operation could create substantial economic value. Residents want government agencies to honor a cabinet resolution mandating assistance for Pak Mool residents through timely dam gate openings during fish spawning periods, with clearer implementation guidelines. Health Ministry data showing lower IQ levels among Ubon children may be linked to fish scarcity caused by the dam, the coordinator suggested. A Mahasarakham University scholar noted that even with gate openings, fish don't immediately return to dam-front areas, as fish migration spans approximately 11 months yearly while current management allows only 4 months of operation, disrupting natural reproduction cycles and biodiversity. The academic proposed dismantling the Pak Mool Dam, arguing that government, politicians, dam promoters, and the World Bank should have respected community rights and livelihoods from the outset.

Tak Province Ready for National Cycling Championship Final
4 Aug Khaosod

General Decha Mekarasri, vice president of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), president of the ASEAN Cycling Confederation (ACF), and chairman of the Thai Cycling Sports Association under royal patronage, announced that the association, together with Tak Province and Bhumibol Dam, will host the final round (Round 5) of Thailand's national road cycling and mountain bike championships on August 7–9, 2026, at Bhumibol Dam. Road cyclists will race on routes within the dam and parts of Samesngao District, while mountain bikers will compete entirely within the dam.

Decha confirmed that Governor Chusak Ruying has ordered all relevant agencies—police, public health officials, civil defense personnel, and rescue volunteers—to prepare fully for traffic management alongside police officers. Tak Province and Bhumibol Dam are now 100 percent ready to welcome cyclists from across the country. Over 2,000 cyclists and supporters are expected to attend, stimulating the local economy and promoting tourism. Cyclists without accommodation are urged to book immediately, as lodging in and around Bhumibol Dam and Samesngao District is limited.

"This final round will determine which cyclist becomes Thailand's national champion and wins the royal trophy," Decha said. Outstanding male and female cyclists in both road and mountain bike categories will receive the Prida Chunlamon Honor Trophy, while the best coach will receive the Seree Trirat Honor Trophy, named after the father of Thai cycling. Mountain bike champions in each age group will also be presented to the King to receive their trophies—a tremendous honor. Representatives from all five host provinces will later receive a Royal Commendation Shield.

Decha added that the final round will also serve as a test event for Thailand's national cycling team preparing for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. On Saturday, August 8, at 3 p.m., the association, the Health Promotion Foundation, and Bhumibol Dam will jointly host a green cycling event, "Bike for Life—TCA Green Cycling," covering 6 kilometers and promoting environmental conservation. The event will also campaign against e-cigarettes, which are spreading among youth and pose health and cancer risks, and promote the "Don't Smoke, Don't Drink" initiative encouraging Thais to quit smoking and alcohol consumption.

Members of the public can watch the competition live on Thai television.

Family Receives Bodies of Three Slain Relatives

A family collected the bodies of three relatives murdered by a suspect in Chachoengsao province, with a Buddhist merit-making ceremony planned at a local temple before the funeral on August 8.

Family Receives Bodies of Three Slain Relatives
4 Aug Khaosod

A grieving family collected the bodies of three relatives—a mother, father, and child—murdered and buried by a suspect known as "Por" in Huai Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chachoengsao province. On August 4, 2025, Kritsada, a family member of the three deceased victims, received the remains at the Police Hospital's Institute of Forensic Medicine to transport them for religious ceremonies at Khao Bunyamee Dararama Temple (also known as Thung Kha Temple) in Chachoengsao.

Kritsada explained that Chantana, one of the deceased, was his aunt. He had been assigned by the family to collect the bodies and arrange a Buddhist merit-making ceremony at the temple, with chanting scheduled for three to four nights and a funeral service set for August 8. Kritsada said the family has been unable to accept what happened and finds it impossible to forgive the perpetrators due to their inhumane brutality. He emphasized that Por, who had been released from prison only two months prior, went on to commit murders of five people total and deserves capital punishment.

When asked if he knew the suspect from the community, Kritsada acknowledged knowing Por as a local resident, though they were not close. He noted that Por was known as a troublemaker who carried a gun and threatened people in the village, though he was unsure if police were aware of his behavior or whether Por was an informant. Locals recognized that despite sometimes wearing police-like clothing, he was not a genuine officer.

Kritsada revealed that during a detention hearing, he confronted Por, looked him in the eye, and said, "You will definitely be executed." At that moment, Por lowered his head and raised his hands in apology. Kritsada also criticized the local police response, noting that when he filed a missing persons report on July 7, officers at Huai Yai station were negligent and failed to conduct a serious investigation, which allowed the tragedy to unfold. However, he acknowledged that he is no longer upset about this and has already spoken with the police.

Before taking his aunt's body and the family's remains home, Kritsada said with resolve, "Today I came with the intention of bringing them home." The bodies were then loaded into a vehicle for transport to Chachoengsao province for the religious services.

Two Men Arrested After Attempted Assault at Public Park

Two men arrested in Khon Kaen face assault charges after allegedly grabbing a woman and attempting to drag her into a restroom at a public park in Ban Fang on August 2, with the victim escaping when a patrol vehicle passed nearby.

Two Men Arrested After Attempted Assault at Public Park
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Kraphop Netthaisongh, superintendent of Ban Fang Police Station in Khon Kaen, took custody of the two suspects and led them to the scene to confirm their statements. The men face charges of jointly committing indecent assault against a person over 15 years old and unlawful detention, stemming from an incident on the night of August 2 when they allegedly grabbed a 39-year-old woman and attempted to drag her into a restroom at Bueng Suang public park in Ban Fang subdistrict.

According to the suspects, they had consumed approximately three bottles of alcohol starting around 7 p.m. in Sawaththi district before riding their motorcycle to Ban Fang. Around 10 p.m., they encountered the victim sitting alone by the pond and attempted to strike up a conversation. After she refused and moved away, they followed her. The suspects then made lewd remarks and propositioned her for sexual services, which she rejected, stating she was too old and asking them not to speak that way.

Lieutenant Colonel Kraphop reported that as the victim tried to walk away, the two men grabbed and yanked her arm, then dragged her toward the restroom behind the guard booth with intent to commit sexual assault. The victim fought back, and when Fluke bit her by the hand and released her, Pipe continued attempting to drag her toward the restroom. The victim sustained bruises and abrasions while resisting. As she clung to a wooden post near the restroom entrance, a patrol vehicle that regularly patrols the area happened to pass by. The victim screamed for help, officers rushed to investigate, and the two suspects fled over the pond fence and hid in the nearby residential area. Despite efforts to search using flashlights, officers were unable to immediately locate them in the dark residential zone.

Monk Arrested After Drug Test Reveals Methamphetamine, Ketamine, Heroin
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, 2025, the Phanom Phrai District security office, under District Chief Ratchakrit Pyakkhraphon, received a complaint from residents about inappropriate behavior by a monk at a local temple in the district. Villagers reported that during chanting sessions, the monk exhibited strange behavior—trembling and convulsing as if possessed—which frightened the community. The district chief ordered an immediate investigation.

District Deputy Commander Naresh Nutong led a team to the temple, where the abbot cooperated fully. Ten monks were summoned for drug screening in the presence of temple officials, village elders, and residents. Testing revealed one monk, identified as Phra Boy (alias), age 42, with abnormal urine results showing a purplish discoloration. His test came back positive for three substances: methamphetamine, ketamine, and heroin. Officers then searched his quarters and discovered a white powder substance in small bags. Authorities seized a mobile phone and 0.29 grams of ketamine as evidence. The abbot immediately defrocked the monk, who was taken to Phanom Phrai Police Station for further questioning and legal proceedings.

PSU Develops CAR-T Cancer Therapy With 90% Success Rate
4 Aug Khaosod

SONGKHLA — The Faculty of Medicine at Prince of Songkla University (PSU) has unveiled progress in using locally developed CAR-T Cell therapy to treat blood cancers and autoimmune diseases, reporting that nearly 90% of patients have achieved complete remission.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Nalinee Kowitwanawong, deputy dean for administration at the Faculty of Medicine, said that PSU had introduced CAR-T Cell therapy to treat patients with lymphoma, leukaemia and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The treatment uses a patient's own immune cells, which are genetically modified to recognise and attack targeted cells.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chakkarawadee Chulamanee, director of the Centre of Excellence for Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell Therapy, said the university had researched and developed PSU CAR-T Cell therapy to treat cancer patients while significantly reducing treatment costs. Imported CAR-T Cell products can cost nearly 20 million baht, while the locally developed treatment can reduce the cost to around 2 million baht.

To expand access to the treatment, PSU's Faculty of Medicine is building a facility to manufacture PSU CD19 CAR-T Cells. The facility is expected to increase production capacity from around 30 patients per year to more than 100 patients annually. The university is also seeking partnerships with private companies and international networks to expand access to the treatment and further develop the technology for international use.

The Faculty of Medicine has signed an agreement with Bangkok Hospital Phuket to develop CAR-T Cell therapy. The partnership combines academic expertise, research capabilities and medical services to establish a systematic, safe and standardised foundation for advanced medical treatment, including precision medicine and advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), alongside a comprehensive patient care system.

The system will cover the entire treatment process, from patient selection and suitability assessments to treatment planning, safety management, monitoring for complications and long-term follow-up by a multidisciplinary medical team. The partnership is also intended to improve access to advanced treatments for patients in Thailand's Andaman coastal region, the wider southern region and international patients.

The initiative is part of efforts to position the region as an international hub for advanced medicine based on medical standards, patient safety, research and meaningful outcomes for patients.

Thammanat Denies Monaco Deal, Vows Full Opposition Stance

Palang Pracharath leader Thammanat Prombanchao denied rumors of political deals with rival factions, saying his party will remain in opposition while giving the government time to prove itself.

Thammanat Denies Monaco Deal, Vows Full Opposition Stance
4 Aug Khaosod

Thammanat Prombanchao, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, firmly denied rumors of a Monaco deal and said he has never discussed or made any arrangement with members of the red or orange factions. Speaking on August 4, 2025, he explained that although his party is not in government, he wants the administration to work fully to address economic and social welfare problems. He said he has spent most of his time with family and rarely involved himself in politics beyond party management and opposition duties.

Regarding his recent foreign travel, Thammanat denied all Monaco deal rumors, stating he traveled only with family and met no one abroad. When asked about possible negotiations with Sirikanya Tansakul, a Pheu Thai list MP who said she was ready to join hands with red and green factions, Thammanat denied any such talks or deals.

On political realignment speculation, Thammanat said such analysis is academic rather than factual. He clarified that no formal discussions have occurred with opposition members about a no-confidence debate. When asked if he has information from his previous oversight of the Agriculture Ministry that could be used in debate, he said he must give credit to the current minister and noted most current projects are continuations of his own work.

Asked whether the party would declare itself in full opposition or leave the door open for political shifts, Thammanat said the Palang Pracharath Party differs from others and must first discuss matters internally. He emphasized the party is giving the government time to demonstrate its competence before considering any changes. On potential realignment with green, red, or orange factions, he said there have been no negotiations—only speculation and analysis.
