Police raided a well-known temple in Mae Hong Son province and arrested the abbot after finding heroin in his quarters on July 9. Pang Maphaa Police Station received complaints from residents fed up with the abbot's scandalous behavior involving drug use. After receiving the report, Pang Maphaa Police coordinated with Border Patrol Police, district administrative officials, and Infantry Battalion 722 to search the temple.
Upon arrival, officers presented their warrant and searched the abbot's cell. They discovered a quantity of Type 1 narcotic drugs—heroin—hidden inside. Police seized the drugs as evidence and took the abbot into custody for preliminary questioning.
Following his confession during interrogation, officers immediately conducted a defrocking ceremony to remove him from monastic status. The former monk was then formally arrested, and all evidence was handed over to investigators at Pang Maphaa Police Station for legal proceedings.
