Former Nonthaburi MP Chaloeng Riao-raeng shot Governor Thongchai Yenpraset and his driver at the provincial office on August 10, citing an 11 million baht debt dispute and surrendered to police shortly after.
Police responded on August 10, 2025, to a shooting incident at the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) office in Muang Nonthaburi district. Officers found Governor Thongchai Yenpraset and his driver both wounded from gunfire. Both were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
The gunman was identified as Chaloeng Riao-raeng, a former Nonthaburi MP, who later surrendered at a police station. Authorities are investigating the incident and gathering evidence.
According to reports, after the shooting Chaloeng called media personality Jae Pong Anchalee Praieeraksa during her radio show and described the incident. Jae Pong later recounted their conversation, saying Chaloeng told her he had fired four to five shots at the governor. She advised him to sit down, put down the gun, and remove the bullets.
Jae Pong quoted Chaloeng as saying: "I shot someone to death. I'm hurt. I've supported the other side in everything. I asked and demanded 11 million baht back. The other side said they don't have it and mistreated me. I've made my decision. I'm going to shoot them. I'll turn myself in afterward."
Jae Pong also mentioned Chaloeng referenced a dispute over parliamentary candidate endorsements, saying he had previously asked them not to submit a candidate, but they went ahead anyway.
