Former Employee Surrenders After Gun Threat at Mayor's Funeral
Former municipal employee Natthapol surrendered to police after firing two shots into the air at a funeral in Pathum Thani to threaten the mayor, whom he blamed for his dismissal. He faces four charges including illegal possession of a firearm and discharging it without justification. Police have seized the weapon and are preparing the case for court.
Former municipal employee Natthapol (surname withheld), 46, turned himself in to Mueang Pathum Thani Police Station on October 8 after firing two shots into the air at Bang Khlong Wat Temple while Mayor Dr. Montipat Eiangjat was attending a funeral for a subordinate’s father. He was dissatisfied about being dismissed from his job. Police charged him with four offenses: insulting a person to their face, discharging a firearm without justification in a town or community, possessing another person’s legally registered firearm and ammunition without permission, and carrying a firearm in a public place without a valid reason. The suspect gave a partial confession. Authorities said the 9mm pistol, magazine, and two rounds belonged to his brother and were legally registered. The weapon will be sent for forensic analysis, and investigators will interview witnesses and gather additional evidence. Natthapol has been detained and transferred to Pathum Thani Provincial Court; bail will be decided by the court.
