Farmer Dies Crushed Under Tractor in Irrigation Canal
A 61-year-old farmer in Ayutthaya province died when his tractor overturned in an irrigation canal and trapped him beneath the machine on August 1. His wife discovered the submerged vehicle after he failed to return home for lunch.
A tragic accident claimed the life of a 61-year-old farmer when his tractor overturned and sank in an irrigation canal in Ayutthaya province. At 2:00 p.m. on August 1, 2026, Bang Baan Police Station received a report of a tractor flipped upside down in a canal in Kob Jao subdistrict. Officers arrived to find the machine half-submerged with the driver trapped underneath. The victim, identified as Samran (last name withheld), was a resident of Kob Jao subdistrict. Authorities called in a lifting crane to recover the tractor before removing the body amid the family's distress.
According to a neighbor, the victim regularly left home in the early morning to work his fields and would normally return for lunch. When he failed to arrive by noon, his family became concerned and began searching. His wife eventually spotted the submerged tractor in the irrigation canal and immediately alerted relatives and neighbors. One relative jumped into the water to investigate but discovered the victim was already trapped beneath the machine and beyond help. Emergency responders were called, though the exact time of the accident remains unclear.
Initial investigation suggests that as the farmer was steering his tractor down from the embankment to enter his rice field along a curved section of road, the vehicle lost control, flipped into the canal, and crushed him underwater. Police documented the scene and collected evidence for further investigation. The body was later transferred to Bang Baan Hospital for autopsy before being released to the family for religious rites.
