BANGKOK — On 7 October 2026, a Thai court sentenced former monk Alongkot to a combined 742 years in prison and self-proclaimed spiritual medium Bee to 386 years and 1,480 months for allegedly embezzling and laundering over 10 billion baht in donations tied to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu. The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases delivered the verdict that same day. Although Bee faced a 386-year term, the court capped his actual imprisonment at the legal maximum of 50 years, citing the value of his testimony. Both men were ordered to jointly repay more than 300 million baht. The investigation started when the Crime Suppression Division arrested Alongkot and Bee over suspected corruption involving donations to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu and money-laundering. Alongkot faced charges including abuse of position to misappropriate property, unlawful performance or neglect of official duties, and joint money laundering. Bee was charged with abetting the alleged misappropriation by an official, abetting the unlawful performance or non-performance of official duties, and joint money laundering. As the probe widened, the Central Investigation Bureau searched 17 sites in Bangkok and nearby provinces, seizing assets valued at over 10 billion baht earmarked for return to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu. Prosecutors then sought court-approved detention and opposed bail, transferring the suspects to the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases.
