Grandfather and Grandson Missing After Boat Capsizes at Reservoir
A grandfather and his 12‑year‑old grandson are missing after their fishing boat capsized at the Lam Phra Phleung reservoir in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Rescue divers from the Huak 31 foundation have been searching since the accident was reported on 16 October 2026, but have not yet located the pair. The operation is hampered by deep, wide waters, with jet skis and boats deployed in the effort.
The grandfather, identified as Thwee Taroh, 60, regularly fishes in the area and brought his grandson along during the school holiday to teach him the trade. They set out early morning in a motorized long-tail boat with fishing nets. While pulling in a catch, the boat lost balance and overturned, throwing both into the water. Relatives notified villagers, who called the Huak 31 underwater rescue unit. Search teams have been scanning the deep, expansive reservoir since 9 a.m., using jet skis and boats, but as of 5 p.m. neither body has been recovered. Officials say the search will continue despite the difficult conditions.
