Gunmen Fire on Police Officer at Home in Yala
Unknown gunmen fired on a police sergeant at his home in Yala's Yaha District on July 14, but he escaped unharmed and the attackers fled. Authorities are investigating the shooting as a suspected insurgent attack and have increased security
On July 14 at 9:10 p.m., the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward (ISOC-4) received a report that unknown assailants had fired shots at Sergeant Major Maropi Ing Khari, an officer at Tharato Police Station, while he was at his residence in Baan Munung, Moo 5, Patat Subdistrict, Yaha District, Yala Province. The officer remained unharmed, and the attackers fled the scene under darkness.
Following the incident, police, military, and local administration coordinated to secure the area, investigate the scene, close off roads, and collect evidence to track down and prosecute the perpetrators. Enhanced security measures have been implemented to protect residents.
Authorities believe the attack was intended to create fear and instability in the area. However, all relevant agencies continue working at full capacity to ensure public safety and confidence. The ISOC-4 Forward is calling on the public to report any suspicious persons or vehicles, or provide information about the attackers, by contacting local security officials or the 24-hour emergency hotline 1341. All information will be kept confidential and used to prosecute those responsible and build a safe and peaceful society in the southern border region.
