French President Emmanuel Macron has publicly supported Kylian Mbappé, the captain of France's national football team, following a heated social media exchange with Celeste Amarilla, a Paraguayan senator.

The dispute began on July 4 during the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match, where France defeated Paraguay 1-0. Mbappé scored the winning goal from a penalty kick. After the match, Amarilla posted discriminatory remarks on X attacking Mbappé, describing him as an oppressed Cameroonian attempting to pose as French, calling him an illiterate savage, and suggesting he deserved to be slapped by a Paraguayan player.

Mbappé responded on X, characterizing Amarilla as a despicable woman unfit for her position and an incompetent who damages her country's image. He stated he would not tolerate her spreading hatred worldwide.

Macron has now intervened, posting on X: "Kylian Mbappé scored another goal by opposing discrimination, and I fully support him. When faced with contemptible racist speech, we must respond with our own values: dignity, respect, and brotherhood."

Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ending his World Cup 2026 campaign and potentially sidelining him for several months of recovery.

Belgium received devastating news when midfielder Amadou Onana sustained a right knee ACL tear. Not only will he miss the remainder of the 2026 World Cup, but he also faces an extended recovery period.

Onana was forced to leave the pitch in the 21st minute during Belgium's commanding 4-1 Round of 16 victory over co-host United States on July 6, before the severity of his injury was confirmed.

Belgium's team physician stated in an official announcement: "Unfortunately, medical examination confirms that Amadou has suffered an ACL tear. This is devastating news for both him and the team."

The statement also noted that Belgium had consulted with Aston Villa of the English Premier League, Onana's club, and determined that the 24-year-old midfielder would remain with the national team at least through the semi-final match against Spain.

While specific recovery timelines have not been disclosed, ACL tears typically require a minimum of 6-9 months of rehabilitation.

Scaloni Credits Heart As Argentina Beats Egypt 3-2

Scaloni Credits Heart As Argentina Beats Egypt 3-2
9h ago Khaosod

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni believes his team secured victory through heart and determination, while Egypt manager Hossam Hassan angrily complained that his side lost due to unfair officiating, suggesting Messi's continued presence in the tournament may have been a factor.

In a thrilling 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match, defending champion Argentina edged past Egypt 3-2, booking passage to the semi-finals to await the winner of the Switzerland-Colombia clash on July 11.

Egypt took a 2-0 lead through goals from Yasser Ibrahim (minute 15) and Mostafa Ziko (minute 67), but Argentina mounted a dramatic comeback with Christian Romero (79'), Lionel Messi (83'), and Enzo Fernández (90+2) finding the net. Messi had missed a penalty kick in the 21st minute.

Scaloni commented: "Tactics are important, sure, but we would have been eliminated without what we showed in this match. Football may be about strategy, but it's also about heart and instinct. When the ball doesn't go in, we have to keep trying until the final whistle."

Hassan countered: "We played better, but our goal was inexplicably disallowed, and we were also denied a rightful penalty. This was an unjust loss. It's possible this was a marketing strategy to keep Messi in the tournament."

On July 7, 2026 at 10 p.m., Bang Baan Police Sub-Station in Ayutthaya Province received a report of a human skull found near the pier at Wat Boon Gan Navalas temple in Sai Noi subdistrict. Officers coordinated with relevant agencies to investigate the scene. The skull, roughly the size of a palm, was darkened in color and believed to belong to a child who had been deceased for at least one year. Police collected it as evidence to send to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for detailed examination to confirm identity and age of the deceased. Nantawat, 23, the fisherman who found the skull, reported that he had set out alone in a small boat about 50 meters from the riverbank. Within less than five minutes of casting his line, he felt a strong pull, as if a large fish had bitten his bait and was fighting hard. Excited at the prospect of catching a big fish, he gradually reeled in his line. When the hook broke the water's surface, he was horrified to discover a human skull attached to it. After recovering from the shock, he immediately called rescue and police officers to report the discovery. Nantawat admitted he has been fishing for many years but has never encountered anything like this before. Terrified by the experience, he decided to quit fishing for good and rushed home immediately.

EU Lawmakers Push Investigation Into Infantino Over Balogan Penalty

EU lawmakers are demanding an investigation into FIFA President Gianni Infantino over the reduced ban on U.S. forward Florian Balogan, citing potential political pressure from the Trump administration and other governance concerns.

EU Lawmakers Push Investigation Into Infantino Over Balogan Penalty
9h ago Khaosod

Multiple European Parliament members are calling for an investigation into FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding the organization's decision to reduce the ban on U.S. forward Florian Balogan, along with other governance concerns. According to AP News, numerous EU lawmakers are supporting calls to investigate Infantino's handling of matters that emerged during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament has drawn significant attention to the case of Florian Balogan, a U.S. forward who received a red card in the Round of 32 match against Bosnia. However, FIFA suspended the ban and replaced it with only a one-year suspended sentence, allowing Balogan to play in the Round of 16 match against Belgium.

Soon after, U.S. President Donald Trump stated publicly that he had contacted Infantino to request FIFA review Balogan's penalty. Infantino acknowledged speaking with Trump but maintained that the decision rested with an independent committee.

Most recently, EU Parliament members Barry Andrews, Lara Wolters, and Niels Fuglsang issued a statement on behalf of the broader group of EU lawmakers, attacking FIFA and declaring the penalty reduction shameful and a distortion of justice.

The statement also calls on national football associations across Europe to pressure FIFA's ethics committee to investigate Infantino and examine whether pressure from the Trump administration was a factor in the penalty reduction.

The statement further demands investigation into Infantino for other alleged violations of political neutrality, including FIFA awarding its Peace Prize to Trump. At least 35 EU lawmakers have now signed the letter in support.

July 7 – Rescue officials from the Ayutthaya United Association responded to a report of a 16-year-old student who fell from a Ayutthaya-Wang Noi public bus with serious injuries on Rojana Road in Ban Pa-in District, Ayutthaya Province. The injured student, identified as Phaluewat, was found lying on the roadside with severe facial lacerations, a fractured skull, multiple broken front teeth, and heavy bleeding. Rescue personnel provided first aid before rushing him to Uthai Hospital.

According to Panya, an official from the Ayutthaya United Association, the student fell from the bus while attempting to get off. The exact circumstances remain unclear, though the student reported he slipped and lost his balance while standing to exit. The bus did not come to a complete stop. Later at Bang Pa-in Police Station, the student's 40-year-old mother, Thiphya, filed a report alongside the bus driver.

Thiphya explained she was waiting at her usual pickup location across the street when the accident occurred. She was unaware her son had fallen until he video-called her saying "I fell off the bus." Shocked by his condition, she noted she had always driven him to and from school since childhood. She had only recently started allowing him to take the public bus home as a way to teach him independence, while she continued to drive him in the mornings. She never expected such an accident would happen.

The bus driver has taken responsibility and begun discussing compensation with the family, including assistance through the Motor Vehicle Accident Victims Protection Act for medical expenses and ongoing settlement negotiations. The incident is believed to have occurred when the student stood up to exit and lost his footing, falling from the moving bus.

England's national team players have been instructed to avoid jumping over advertising boards to prevent a repeat of Jordan Henderson's injury that ended his World Cup campaign.

According to BBC reports, England's players have been cautioned against jumping over pitch-side advertising boards to avoid the fate of midfielder Jordan Henderson, who was forced out of the 2026 World Cup due to this exact incident.

Henderson suffered his injury following England's 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16 on July 5th. While attempting to climb over an advertising board, he misjudged and fell awkwardly to the ground, forcing him to leave the pitch.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has now instructed players to avoid climbing or jumping over advertising boards to prevent similar incidents from occurring again. Henderson will continue to remain with the squad through the end of the World Cup campaign.
