Kanchanaburi Dams Near Full, Warn Mae Klong Basin Flood Risk
Both the Srinagarind and Vajiralongkorn dams in Kanchanaburi are nearly full, leaving less than 1% and 2.6% of capacity respectively. Authorities have warned communities along the Kwai Yai and Mae Klong rivers to prepare for possible flooding and to stay updated with official alerts. Rainfall moving from central Thailand could exacerbate the situation over the coming hours.
Authorities urge residents living along the Kwai Yai and Mae Klong rivers to monitor official announcements, move belongings to higher ground, and prepare for possible water level changes. The Meteorological Department noted moderate to heavy rain over Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani between 08:30 and 09:30, with the system expected to drift over parts of Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Samut Songkhram and possibly linger for more than an hour. In Bangkok, most of the rain has moved westward, but vigilance is still advised for the Thonburi area.
