On October 27, 2026, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suwat Chomklin disclosed that he had received a report from Kanthaphan Pisalsukskul, the Ministry's Inspector General and a member of the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand committee. Khao Kheow Open Zoo has taken custody of a female red panda (Red Panda), approximately five years old, from the Wildlife Conservation Division of Conservation Area Office 14 in Tak Province. A team of veterinarians and animal care specialists accompanied the animal throughout the journey to ensure its safety and minimize stress.
Suwat stated that the red panda will now enter an enhanced health examination process and quarantine for at least 30 days under close veterinary care. The zoo has prepared a temperature-controlled holding area to allow the animal to rest and adjust to its new environment safely, prioritizing its health and welfare above all.
The red panda is a conservation-critical species listed under Appendix I of CITES, which regulates international trade in species threatened with extinction. Khao Kheow Open Zoo is therefore committed to providing care based on scientific principles and animal welfare standards to ensure the red panda receives appropriate treatment.
