On August 18, Deputy Sergeant Major Songphop Kamjai of Udon Thani City Police received a report from a 52-year-old market vendor and good citizen who had found a white women's wallet at the Municipality Market 2 in Mak Khaeng subdistrict. The wallet contained government documents, a national ID card, several other important cards, and 370 baht in cash. Police logged the find and traced the owner.

The vendor, Nang, explained that her granddaughter discovered the wallet on August 16 while opening their market stall. Nang found it still there the next morning when she arrived to set up. After seeing it contained important documents and ID cards, she decided to safeguard it and wait for the owner to come retrieve it. When no one claimed it after another day, she brought it to police because she feared the owner would face hardship, especially regarding lost documents.

"We didn't want to keep what wasn't ours. We were worried about the owner having trouble, especially with important documents. We wanted them to come get it back quickly," Nang said.

Kinirat, 53, the wallet's owner, later came to Udon Thani City Police to retrieve it. She confirmed all contents were intact, not a single baht missing. Kinirat recalled shopping at the market that day, buying vegetables and other items, unaware she had lost the wallet. She only noticed it missing around 9 p.m. that evening after checking at home. She was anxious until police called to say a good citizen had found it and turned it in.

Kinirat revealed her greatest worry was not the 400 baht in cash, but her bedridden mother's ID card. Replacing it would have been difficult and troublesome. "At first I thought if someone kept the money, that was okay as long as they returned my national ID. I never expected to get everything back intact. I'm truly grateful to the good citizen and the police," she said emotionally.

When asked if she would be more careful in future, Kinirat laughed good-naturedly: "I'll probably forget just like before. I'm naturally forgetful anyway."

The heartwarming story brought joy to everyone involved—both the wallet's finder and its owner.

Immigration officers in Nong Khai arrested four Chinese men and one Thai driver after crossing the Mekong River from Laos en route to Myanmar. The joint operation by Nong Khai immigration, provincial police, and customs officials intercepted a Honda City vehicle at Nong Song Hong intersection heading toward Tha Bo District. Inside the car was Udom Saehaa, 40, a driver from Rong Kwang District in Phrae Province, and four Chinese men aged 22 to 26.

Police found seven backpacks in the rear storage area covered with mud, containing numerous laptops, internet signal transmitters, and mobile phones. When questioned through a Chinese interpreter, the Chinese nationals claimed not to know who owned the equipment and provided no useful information. The Thai driver, Udom, confessed to picking up the Chinese men from the Mekong riverbank in Pho Phisai District for 6,000 baht each, with plans to transport them to Phitsanulok Province before handing them over to contacts who would take them to Myanmar.

Investigators found no passports among the group, and intelligence suggests eight Chinese nationals entered Thailand illegally, all evading a crackdown in Vientiane. Officers believe this is a network relocation operation for online scammers of various types. The group maintained constant internet connectivity throughout their journey. Legal action will proceed against all suspects.

Dr. Montien Kanasuwan, director of the Disease Control Department under the Public Health Ministry, announced on August 18 that Yangon has recorded approximately 500 cases of severe diarrhea admitted to hospitals since August 9. Of these, 149 tested positive for cholera and nine cases were confirmed as Vibrio cholerae by Myanmar's national health laboratory. The single death was an elderly patient with pre-existing heart and lung disease.

Most patients are concentrated in central Yangon, an area dense with restaurants and street food vendors. Myanmar authorities have launched food and water quality inspections, sanitized water systems, increased chlorine use, disinfected patient homes, and temporarily suspended risky street food sales. He recommended drinking only sealed bottled water or boiled water, avoiding ice from unknown sources, eating only freshly cooked hot food, and avoiding unhygienic street food.

Investigators from Hang Dong Police Station in Chiang Mai, working with officers from Chang Phueak Police Station and other units, arrested three suspects at a second-hand goods shop in Chang Phueak subdistrict, Muang district, Chiang Mai on August 18. The arrests followed a tip-off about theft of water pumps in the Hang Dong area, leading police to track down the group attempting to sell stolen goods.

The three suspects are Chai, 20; Moo, 21; and A (alias), 15. During interrogation, they admitted to stealing not only water pumps but also electrical wiring from an abandoned hotel in Chang Phueak subdistrict. They would cut the wire and use a ride-hailing app to have it transported to second-hand shops. On August 16, they sold over 100 kilograms of wire, and were attempting to sell an additional 40 kilograms when police apprehended them with the stolen goods.

Police examining the suspects' mobile phones discovered videos showing the group cutting electrical wire inside the abandoned hotel while rap-singing hip-hop lyrics, proudly showcasing their crimes. The suspects also revealed that while stealing at the hotel, they encountered another theft gang stealing electrical appliances. The two groups negotiated and agreed to divide the area to avoid conflict before police arrested them and filed criminal charges.
