Malaysia Approves 473 Gold Medals for 2027 SEA Games
Malaysia approved 473 gold medal events across 43 sports for the 2027 SEA Games, adding padel and four other new sports to the program.
Malaysia has finalized the program for the 34th SEA Games in 2027, officially approving a total of 473 gold medal events across 43 sports. Five sports won appeals for inclusion, including padel, which will make its regional Games debut. The decision was confirmed at the SEAGF Executive Committee Meeting No. 3 (2025-2027) held online, chaired by Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad, Deputy President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia. Thai delegation head General Charouck Arirachakaran, SEAGF CEO, and representatives from all 11 National Olympic Committees attended and endorsed the final event list.
The 43 sports and 473 events resulted from extensive negotiations between the Olympic Council of Malaysia, the Malaysia SEA Games Organizing Committee (MASOC), and SEAGF under the federation's charter. Dr. Nur Azmi said the finalized program allows every member NOC to plan and accelerate their preparations. The five newly approved sports after appeals are padel, dancesport, teqball, ice hockey, and kabaddi.
MASOC CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub confirmed competition clusters in four main cities: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang, and Johor. Padel, with six countries already committed, will be held in Kuala Lumpur, while dancesport will take place in Sarawak. The meeting also marked a milestone as SEAGF formally applied to become a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code, with General Charouck and Malaysian NOC Secretary Mohammad Nazir Ali signing to elevate doping control standards to international levels. The 34th SEA Games are scheduled for September 18-29, 2027, in Malaysia.
