Man Arrested at Emissions Checkpoint With Illegal Firearm
A 40-year-old motorcyclist was arrested at a Bangkok emissions checkpoint after police found an unlicensed firearm in his bag; he claimed he carried it for self-defense.
Traffic police officers from the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau's Emissions Testing Unit 5, led by senior officers including Deputy Chief Thirawitya Bussaban, conducted an operation at the emissions checkpoint on Soi Nimit Mai 61 (outbound) in Khlong Sam Wa, Bangkok. They stopped a 40-year-old man identified as Kalyut riding a white and black Honda Sonic 125 motorcycle bearing Chachoengsao registration plates. During a search, officers discovered a firearm in a blue shoulder bag carried by the suspect. The man told police he was carrying the weapon for self-defense. Kalyut has been charged with carrying an unlicensed firearm in an urban area without authorization and with displaying a weapon in a public place without justified cause. He was transferred to Nimit Mai Police Station for further legal proceedings.
