MG Runs Red Light, Crashes Into Civic in Pattaya; Two Injured
An MG ran a red light at a South Pattaya intersection early Oct 26, crashing into a Honda Civic and flipping both vehicles; two drivers were injured and a fire was extinguished by bystanders.
At 2:06 a.m. on October 26, Pattaya City Police received a report of a violent collision that flipped two vehicles at the South Pattaya traffic-light intersection on the inbound lane to Bangkok, in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Chonburi. Officers responded with the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit.
At the scene, a Rayong-registered MG sedan was found overturned on its side, heavily damaged. The driver, an unidentified foreign national, suffered abrasions across his body and severe chest contusions. His 36-year-old British passenger was uninjured.
The other vehicle, a Chiang Mai-registered Honda Civic, had been struck broadside and thrown more than 30 meters, also sustaining heavy damage. Its driver, 38-year-old Warut (surname withheld), suffered a fractured right arm and a right-eye injury from the impact. Rescue workers administered first aid to both men before transporting them urgently to hospital.
Witnesses said the MG was heading from Sattahip toward Bangkok when it reached the intersection just as the light turned red. Instead of stopping, the foreign driver accelerated through the red light, striking the Civic as it was crossing onto South Pattaya Road. The force sent both vehicles spinning in opposite directions.
The foreign driver was trapped in the wreckage as sparks ignited a fire, causing panic among bystanders. Quick-thinking citizens managed to extinguish the flames and pull the driver to safety.
Pol. Lt. Col. Chen Phu Thadnga, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Pattaya City Police, documented the scene and said CCTV footage would be reviewed to determine the exact cause and ensure fairness for all parties.
