20 Jul Khaosod

At 3:30 p.m. on July 20, 2026, police from Bang Thai Station in Ayutthaya, hospital medical staff, and officers from the Thai Gratitude Foundation examined a female body that had been deceased for approximately three days, floating among water hyacinth plants. The body was believed to be that of Pratin, or "Grandma Thaen," age 85.

After discovering the body, officials coordinated with village headwoman Phonphat Chamnaisinn and relatives of the deceased to confirm her identity through the clothes she wore on the day of the incident. A preliminary examination found 360 baht in cash on the body and no signs of injury or assault.

Port Authority officials revealed that while conducting water hyacinth removal operations near an old sand pit, boat crew members noticed flies swarming around vegetation and investigated, discovering the deceased woman's body face-down entangled in the plants about 30 kilometers downstream from where she fell. The crew immediately alerted police and rescue units.

Police and a medical examiner initially examined the body before sending it for a detailed autopsy to determine the cause of death through forensic procedures. The body will later be released to relatives for funeral rites according to tradition.

Mother Seeks Justice After Son's Death in Unsolved Assault

Mother Seeks Justice After Son's Death in Unsolved Assault
20 Jul Khaosod

Ms. Saichon, 58, the mother of 35-year-old Thosapol (nicknamed "Ai Khai Thongdaeng"), filed a complaint with Sergeant Major King Taengthim Samphrannuea seeking justice after her son was beaten to death by a group of teenagers using a stainless steel chair. The incident occurred at Rotgsai Market 1 in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province, in September 2024, but the case has stalled with no arrests and suspects still at large. She subsequently filed a complaint with the Suppression Division on July 15, and most recently on July 20, 2025, met with the Pradumnuea Chulalongkorn Police Station commander to follow up on the investigation's progress, fearing the case might be buried or influenced.

The police commander disclosed that the incident occurred before he took office in December. Upon assuming his position, he ordered investigators to review the case and found that one suspect, Sakchai, had engaged in mediation regarding his involvement in punching the victim. However, the autopsy confirmed the death was caused by blunt force trauma to the head from a hard or metal object, not directly from the punches. Another suspect, Go, will be charged with attempted murder, though compensation payments are only considered mitigating factors and do not close the criminal case. The commander emphasized that the final decision to prosecute remains the court's discretion, not the investigator's or police's responsibility.

Regarding the mother's concerns about the case going quiet, the commander confirmed that while investigators had completed an initial summary, he found it insufficient and ordered further investigation into all aspects, including forensic science, evidence, and witness testimony. He has instructed investigators to finalize the summary by Friday, though he cannot confirm when it will be submitted to prosecutors, as he personally reviews all details to ensure thoroughness before legal proceedings continue.

Ms. Saichon expressed relief that the commander pledged to expedite the case as requested. She stated that although losing her son left her feeling unsupported, she must remain strong and care for herself as he would have wanted. She hopes officials will pursue the case to the end, noting that her son was beloved in the community, kind-hearted, and always willing to help neighbors and those around him, even when struggling financially.

Animal Welfare Groups Call for Probe Into Elephant Firecracker Incident
20 Jul Khaosod

The Thailand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TSPCA) and the Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation, together with partner organisations, have called for an investigation into an incident in which a volunteer allegedly threw a firecracker at Plai Salika, a well-known wild elephant at Khao Yai National Park.

The move follows widespread criticism on social media after footage of the incident circulated online.

On 20 July 2026, the organisations submitted a letter to the chairman of the Animal Cruelty Prevention and Animal Welfare Committee, who is also the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, requesting an official investigation.

In the letter, the groups urged authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident and take action in accordance with relevant laws. They also called on the government to accelerate amendments to expand legal protections for animals living in the wild under Thailand's Animal Cruelty Prevention and Animal Welfare Act B.E. 2557 (2014).

The organisations said the proposed changes should cover wildlife that frequently comes into contact with people, as well as other wild animals and imported species that are vulnerable to cruelty. They argued that broadening the legal definition of protected wild animals under the Act would strengthen safeguards against animal abuse and improve animal welfare.

The incident involving Plai Salika, one of Khao Yai National Park's best-known wild elephants, has prompted widespread public debate over the treatment of wildlife and the need for stronger legal protection.

Man's Bank Accounts Frozen After Scam Victim's Report

A 37-year-old man's bank accounts were frozen after police linked his name to a scam targeting an elderly woman, though he was merely the unwitting recipient of the fraudulent transfer and is now waiting over a month for the freeze to be li

Man's Bank Accounts Frozen After Scam Victim's Report
20 Jul Khaosod

A TikTok user going by "Champ" posted a video describing how all his bank accounts were suddenly frozen, writing that he "became a dark horse account out of nowhere" and questioning who would take responsibility for his suffering and losses.

On July 20, 2569, Nontaphat, 37, known as Champ, told Thai News that on July 9 he received a notification that one of his bank accounts had been suspended for online use. He didn't pay attention at first since he rarely used that account. The next day, he learned all his other active accounts had also been frozen. When he called the bank, staff directed him to contact the Technology Crime Investigation Division (TCID) at 1441. TCID then instructed him to file a report with local police at Prachachu station.

When he arrived at the police station, he discovered that an elderly woman was filing a complaint against a scammer. She explained that she had been defrauded by someone claiming to refund her electricity meter fee—about 10,000 baht. The scammer sent her a QR code to scan for 5,200 baht, which was registered under Champ's name. Once the money left her account and never returned, she reported the fraud to police. The scammer then blocked her, making it appear that Champ was the fraudster. However, after speaking with the woman directly, they both understood the situation and she wanted only to recover her money.

Champ said he wanted his accounts unfrozen so he could transfer money back to the elderly woman. He received an order to lift the freeze and took it to the bank, but bank staff were confused, saying the freeze was issued by TCID. He had to return to Prachachu station to have officers enter the case into the system. As of yesterday, staff told him the case was logged but the process could take at least a month.

Champ expressed confusion about why all his accounts were frozen when the original complaint only sought to freeze the account that received the fraudulent transfer. He is also puzzled about how his name became attached to the scammer's account, as he never clicked any links or fell victim to fraud himself—he only conducted normal shopping transfers.

The impact on him has been severe. He received money into only one account, yet all his bank accounts and every financial transaction linked to his national ID card were frozen. He cannot pay debts, cannot receive funds, and is being charged credit card penalties for unpaid bills despite notifying banks his accounts are frozen. He has been forced to use savings in cash, which he is running out of.

20 Jul Khaosod

Thai Airways has partnered with SIRIVANNAVARI, a luxury fashion brand under the vision of Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, to create special amenity kit collections for Royal First Class passengers. The collection draws inspiration from Thai art, culture, and traditions, reinterpreted in a contemporary style to offer a travel experience that blends Thai identity with international service standards.

The amenity kit collection comprises two design concepts. The first design is inspired by Thai celestial beings and features auspicious animals from the four cardinal directions of Mount Meru—horse, elephant, lion, and ox—rendered in a watercolor style influenced by ancient Thai mural painting. These animals represent travelers from all corners of the world. The design incorporates peacock and iris motifs, symbols of the SIRIVANNAVARI brand, along with orchid flowers symbolizing Thai Airways, reflecting themes of friendship and the art of living.

The second design draws from Thai hospitality traditions, incorporating garlands and ancient hanging ornaments called "uba" reinterpreted as contemporary patterns. These convey good wishes and blessings to guests, complemented by banana plant motifs symbolizing abundance and prosperity, combined with the SIRIVANNAVARI peacock design. A celebratory color palette merges Thai cultural charm with modernity.

Both collection bags feature a polygonal design for convenience and practical packing, with premium leather handles and embossed SIRIVANNAVARI logos. Inside, the kits contain carefully curated premium products including skincare from LA PRAIRIE and SIRIVANNAVARI products, along with essential travel items. Royal First Class passengers also receive a LA PRAIRIE facial treatment voucher redeemable at participating locations in Thailand and abroad, offering relaxation after travel.

The special amenity kit collection is now available to Royal First Class passengers on flights to London, Osaka, and Tokyo Narita.

Police Advance Exam Fraud Probe Over 70 Percent
20 Jul Khaosod

Police announced on July 20, 2025, that the investigation into fraud allegations surrounding a local government civil service exam has advanced beyond 70 percent completion. Deputy Commander Pol. Col. Utten Nuayphim of Regional Police Region 6 revealed the findings following the third meeting led by Police Commissioner General Kittarat Panshet, noting that the investigation panel reviewed documentary evidence and testimony from seven witnesses and identified 30 suspicious points warranting further examination across three phases: pre-exam, during-exam, and post-exam procedures, with particular attention to irregularities discovered after testing concluded.

The investigation involves multiple agencies including local government organizations, the Central Committee for Local Government Personnel Management, and the Central Committee for Local Government Employee Recruitment Examination. The panel noted that an external agency was hired to conduct the exam but emphasized it remains under deep investigation. Pol. Col. Utten clarified that the panel's role is limited to fact-finding and legal analysis regarding institutions and individuals, excluding financial tracing, criminal prosecution, or suspect apprehension—responsibilities held by the Central Investigation Command. The investigation committee's findings may provide useful information to criminal authorities if evidence of wrongdoing is discovered, though the committee itself has no criminal investigation authority and is tasked with preparing academic and policy recommendations for the government.

BEM Turns MRT Stations Into TCAS Study Hubs

Bangkok Mass Transit System converted MRT stations into free TCAS exam study centers in July, offering students interactive learning sessions with renowned instructors on test strategy and self-discovery.

BEM Turns MRT Stations Into TCAS Study Hubs
20 Jul Khaosod

As educational competition intensifies, test preparation has evolved beyond solo textbook study. Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BEM) is expanding its 18-year "BEM Helps You Conquer TCAS" initiative by transforming MRT stations into learning centers in a new program called "Next Station Pre-TCAS Study Station" under the theme "Master the Top Scores, Crack Every Test." The interactive learning experience at Thailand Cultural Center MRT and Khlong Toei MRT stations featured a classroom without walls but filled with inspiration. Over three days in early July, the atmosphere buzzed with smiles and laughter as students learned directly from renowned instructors including Dr. Theerayuth Boonma (Teacher Khru Phi Knot) and Pawurit Thirabussayawes (Teacher Khru Phi Pan) from SmartMathPro, who guided students through TCAS system understanding and aptitude discovery via Mini MBTI and Mock Exams. Teacher Rithwan Machae (Teacher Khru Wan) from OpenDurian shared score-planning techniques and time-management strategies through motivational talks. The program concluded with art-track workshops where professors helped students develop portfolios and discover their potential.

Teacher Khru Phi Pan remarked that transforming a daily transit space into a learning hub was an innovative idea. He compared TCAS preparation to an MRT journey, noting students are now at station three of ten—a point where they begin seeing their destination clearly. While the path ahead has turns and choices to make, there is still time to choose the right direction. He emphasized that "direction matters more than speed"; once students know their goal, they can gradually accelerate toward their dream university with confidence.

Across the different daily sessions, all instructors shared a consistent message: university entrance exams are not purely about score competition but about discovering one's own path. Before students pass into the right faculty, they must know themselves and envision the kind of person they want to become. These recommendations transcended mere exam technique, instead providing inspiration that helped many students clarify their future goals. Two Grade 12 students from Sankhit Witthaya School, Bangkok, shared that they joined to update their knowledge of this year's TCAS guidelines and were impressed by the instructors' clear, sequential teaching style that drove home key points. They believe continuous practice will boost confidence before the real exam, and they view today's preparation as roughly one-quarter into their journey, with time still remaining to learn and grow.

Thailand, EU Tackle Trade Fraud to Protect $53B Market

Thailand and the EU are strengthening cooperation to combat trade fraud and origin manipulation, protecting their $53 billion bilateral trade relationship through shared anti-fraud technologies and best practices.

Thailand, EU Tackle Trade Fraud to Protect $53B Market
20 Jul Khaosod

Thailand's Department of Foreign Trade is strengthening cooperation with the European Union to combat trade circumvention and fraudulent origin claims of Thai goods. A Thai delegation participated in a cooperation meeting in Spain from June 28 to July 4, 2025, alongside key EU and Spanish government agencies. The discussions focused on exchanging knowledge and best practices regarding anti-circumvention measures, anti-origin fraud prevention, and rules of origin verification—mechanisms critical to building transparency and confidence in the international trade system.

The Thai delegation held in-depth discussions with EU experts on investigating cases involving anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures, as well as fact-checking procedures for complaints and customs tax fraud prevention. A major focus was the application of digital technology and artificial intelligence to enhance trade oversight. The EU's Office for Anti-Fraud (OLAF) presented its Data Analytics Platform and Anti-Fraud Information System (AFIS), which analyze and cross-reference customs data to detect anomalies such as false origin declarations, undervalued goods, and tariff code manipulation to evade duties.

According to Arada Fuengtong, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, these approaches represent important models that Thailand can adapt to develop its own risk management and origin verification systems, aimed at preventing fraudulent claims of Thai goods and reducing vulnerability to foreign trade measures. She stated that this cooperation aligns with the Commerce Ministry's policy of elevating international trade oversight standards while facilitating legitimate trade, balancing protection against unfair trade practices with promotion of transparent and fair free trade.

The EU is Thailand's fourth-largest trading partner, after China, the United States, and Japan. In 2024, bilateral trade was valued at $53.3 billion, while the first quarter of 2025 saw trade worth $12.22 billion, a 20.14% increase year-on-year, underscoring the European market's critical importance to Thai exporters. Businesses must strictly comply with rules of origin regulations to maintain the credibility and competitiveness of Thai goods in global markets.

Denla Invests 25 Million Baht in New Learning Commons
20 Jul Khaosod

Denla Kindergarten has invested over 25 million baht to develop Denla Learning Commons, a 1,000-square-meter learning space designed to reshape early childhood education in response to changing parental expectations and global shifts in educational philosophy. The facility encourages children to think, play, and learn through hands-on experience, moving away from the school's traditional focus on preparing children for selective primary school admissions.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toyos Paldetpong, executive board member of Denla Schools and Denla Kindergarten Phetchkasem branch, the facility reflects how parents now prioritize helping children discover their own potential, develop critical thinking, build confidence in communication, and learn to work with others—rather than focusing solely on test scores. The five zones include Wonder Garden for developing thinking and imagination through LEGO and Minecraft Education; Sound Garden for music and expression; Discovery Garden for language and communication skills; Play Zone, a mock city with settings like cafes, hospitals, supermarkets, and fire stations for role-play learning; and Kids Club for children aged six months to three years, where parents and children learn together.

Denla's early childhood research found that modern parents prioritize five key elements: personalized learning suited to each child, spaces for experiential learning, development of uniquely human skills that AI cannot replace (such as creativity, communication, and collaboration), cultivation of future skills from early childhood, and opportunities for children to discover their own strengths. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toyos emphasized that opening Denla Learning Commons reflects a broader shift in early childhood education from memorization and academic pressure toward building life skills and sustainable learning abilities that will serve children throughout their lives.
