Monk Jailed 180 Years for Grandniece Rape After Confession

Phichit Provincial Court sentenced famous monk 'Ouy Bang Klan' to 180 years in prison for repeatedly raping his grandniece over six years, starting when she was nine. The 360-year sentence was halved after his confession, though Thai law caps actual imprisonment at 50 years. The abuse occurred in multiple locations across Phichit and Nakhon Sawan provinces, with the monk recording videos and photos to blackmail the victim.

Phichit Court orders 360-year jail term for famous monk 'Ouy Bang Klan', reduced to 180 years after confession; maximum imprisonment capped at 50 years under law. Case involves six-year rape of marathon-running grandniece.

The case originated when the guardians of Ms. A (pseudonym) filed a complaint with Phothale Police Station in Phichit Province against 'Ouy Bang Klan', a famous monk and former abbot of a prominent temple in Phichit, after Ms. A was sexually abused by the former abbot for six years, with photos and video clips recorded for blackmail, as previously reported.

Most recently, on November 4, 2026, Phichit Provincial Court delivered the verdict in the case. The victim was lured and raped continuously from the age of 9 to 14, spanning over six years. The defendant committed the acts each time in vehicles, residences, and various resorts in Phothale District, Bang Mun Nak District, Phichit Province, as well as Chum Saeng District, Nakhon Sawan Province. He also recorded video clips and took photos to blackmail the victim, threatening to release them on social media if she told anyone. He frequently called to threaten and force compliance, and used school pick-up and drop-off times to commit the offenses.

The case came to light when the defendant's wife became suspicious of her husband's behavior and secretly checked his mobile phone, discovering numerous video clips and photos. She then presented the evidence to the child's guardians. Because the victim was the defendant's grandniece, the guardians filed a police report, leading to the arrest of 'Ouy Bang Klan', the famous monk and former abbot of Wat Bang Klan in Phothale District.

After considering the evidence and witnesses, Phichit Provincial Court found the defendant guilty and sentenced 'Ouy Bang Klan' to a total of 360 years in prison for all charges. However, because the defendant confessed, the court reduced the sentence by half to 180 years. Nevertheless, under Section 91(3) of the Penal Code, when combining all sentences, the maximum imprisonment cannot exceed 50 years.
