Amnat Charoen — A 50-year-old man drowned in the large Don Pu Ta pond at Wat Pa Nong Kham Wong in Ban Non Kaen, Sang Tho Noi subdistrict, Hua Taphan district, Amnat Charoen province on November 4. The Phet Kasem Amnat Charoen Foundation received the alert and coordinated with divers to search the area where he was last seen. After about 30 minutes, they located the man's body at the bottom of the pond. He was unclothed; his clothes were found folded on the bank.
Villagers who witnessed the incident said the man complained about the hot weather, removed his shirt, and entered the pond to swim. He apparently became exhausted and could not keep himself afloat. A monk who saw what was happening tried to jump in and help but could not reach him in time; the man disappeared beneath the water right before his eyes.
