Man Drowns While Collecting Clams in Northeastern Pond
In Nakhon Ratchasima, a 52-year-old man drowned while collecting clams in a large natural pond, likely due to sudden leg cramps caused by cold water. Rescue divers located his body about 30 meters offshore and transferred it to forensic officials for an autopsy. Police will inform his relatives so they can claim the body for funeral rites.
On October 5, 2026, the Nakhon Ratchasima Underwater Rescue Unit Huok 31 received a report from investigators at Khum Thale So Police Station about a missing person who had vanished underwater in Nong Saeng Pond, located in Nong Saeng subdistrict, Khum Thale So district. The unit deployed divers with search equipment, assisted by previous search teams from the Nong Saeng, Non Thai, Udomsap, and Pak Thong Chai stations. Nong Saeng Pond is a large natural water body that has been renovated into a public park landmark for local recreation and exercise. Witnesses told police they saw the 52-year-old man entering the water to gather clams before he suddenly disappeared underwater. Divers in wetsuits formed a search line, expanding outward from the shore about 30 meters, where they found the man’s body submerged and unresponsive. They brought the body to shore for officials to examine before handing it over to forensic doctors at Khum Thale So Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Preliminary assessment suggests the man may have suffered from sudden leg cramps, inhaled water, or lost consciousness due to the rapid drop in water temperature caused by recent rain, which his body could not adjust to, preventing him from swimming back to safety. Authorities said they will notify the man’s relatives so they can claim the body after the autopsy for religious rites.
