Bangkok Sends Water Pumps to Four Districts Before Heavy Rain
Bangkok’s floodwaters are receding, with the Rom Klao estate seeing a drop of 30‑70 cm and officials opening extra drainage gates in Min Buri, Prawet and Saphan Sung to channel water into the Saen Saep Canal. Mobile water pumps are being sent to four at‑risk districts in preparation for heavy rain expected from October 5‑11, while over 1,400 tonnes of debris have been cleared and more than 40,000 residents have signed up for relief aid. Authorities warn that a section of Chalong Krung Road remains flooded and should be avoided.
Officials said Bangkok’s water levels continue to fall, though a stretch of Chalong Krung Road remains flooded and should be avoided. In Rom Klao, water has been lowered by 30‑70 cm, with a target of at least 25 cm per day. Additional drainage gates have been opened in Min Buri, Prawet and Saphan Sung to direct water toward the Saen Saep Canal, while pumps have been moved from dry districts to Sai Mai and O Ngern communities, assisted by push‑boats expected to clear the area within two days. The Chao Phraya River is forecast to peak at 1.72 metres, well below the city’s flood barriers. To brace for heavy rain on October 5‑6 and 10‑11, Bangkok will accelerate drainage in major canals and station mobile pumps in Sai Mai, Lat Krabang, Khlong Sam Wa and Saphan Sung. So far, about 1,400 tonnes of large floating waste have been collected from flooded zones, and roughly 40,000 residents have registered for assistance covering living expenses, home repairs and essential supplies, with the highest numbers coming from Lat Krabang, Sai Mai and Bang Kapi districts.
