The Thai Meteorological Department issued advisory notice No. 8 (124/2569) on July 12, 2025, warning of strong southwest monsoon winds affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand from July 12-15. Upper Andaman waters will see waves 2-4 meters high, exceeding 4 meters in thunderstorm areas. The upper Gulf and lower Andaman will experience 2-3 meter waves, surpassing 3 meters during storms. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and avoid thunderstorm zones, while small boats should remain ashore during this period.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for the southern western coast, western central region, and eastern areas July 12-14, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Chanthaburi, Trat, and Kanchanaburi provinces. Residents should prepare for sudden flooding and flash floods, especially in hillside areas and low-lying zones near waterways. Typhoon Bavi made landfall in China's Zhejiang Province and will weaken to a tropical storm and depression; it will not directly impact Thailand but will strengthen the southwest monsoon.
The public is advised to plan activities carefully and monitor weather updates from the Thai Meteorological Department via tmd.go.th, phone 0-2399-4012-13, or hotline 1182 available 24/7. The next advisory will be issued July 12 at 5:00 PM. Overall, scattered to heavy rainfall is expected nationwide, with very heavy rain in western central, eastern, and western southern regions due to the strong monsoon and a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam. Coastal residents should remain alert to dangerous wave surges.
