More than 20 otters were spotted swimming and catching fish in Bangkok Noi Canal near Bang Khu Wiang, Nonthaburi, on 5 October 2026. The sighting occurred in Moo 7, Bang Krang subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi district, where both large and small otters were observed hunting for fish. Local residents, some of whom have lived along the canal for over 40 years, said they had never seen such a large group before. One resident noted the otters appeared around 15:00, compared to only three or four otters seen about two years earlier. The resident added that otter sightings increase when upstream water flows into the area, suggesting the animals may have arrived with the current, though this remains unconfirmed. Observers saw the otters split into two groups on opposite sides of the canal; at times the groups faced each other as if preparing to confront, while others continued swimming and feeding naturally. As protected wildlife and natural predators, the otters' sudden appearance has sparked considerable interest among long‑time residents.
