Mother Identifies Confinement Rooms at Kanchanaburi Nursing Home
Mae Phat returned to the Sothornchai Nursing Home in Kanchanaburi to point out the rooms where she had been confined and assaulted, confronting the staff member known as Aunt Maew and two other employees. She revealed a previously unknown hidden room where she had also been held, aiding police in mapping the site for their investigation. Mae Phat said she would pursue legal action against all involved, including her son, while expressing hope that the case would trigger nationwide inspections of elderly care facilities.
Mae Phat, emotionally affected, pointed out the confinement sites at the Sothornchai Nursing Home and revealed the moment she confronted Aunt Maew and two staff members who had previously assaulted her. She said another secret room, not yet discovered by police, was found that day. At 10:30 a.m. on October 9, 2026, officers from the Provincial Police Bureau, together with the Sai Mai Must Survive team and Ms. Narat (Mae Phat), went to the Sothornchai Nursing Home in Thamang District, Kanchanaburi Province to identify the places where she had been detained and physically abused. During the identification, police asked the media not to accompany Mae Phat and the officers so investigators could prepare a detailed map of all locations inside the elderly care facility before proceeding. After completing the pointing‑out and mapping, Mae Phat said she felt stronger and thought she would no longer be upset, but returning to the site revived her fear and trauma, bringing her to tears. While guiding the officers to the various points, she encountered Aunt Maew and two other staff members who had previously assaulted her, causing her to feel frightened and tense, her face turning pale. Officers from the Provincial Police Bureau repeatedly checked on her condition, offering smelling salts to help her continue the identification and mapping. They then escorted Aunt Maew and her team out of the facility so the work could proceed. Mae Phat added that during today’s walk‑through she showed police a hidden room that had not yet been discovered, a place where she had previously been confined, and helped them add it to the case map. She vowed to pursue legal action against everyone involved, including her own son. At the same time, Japan, the son of Aunt Maew, came forward to apologize to Mae Phat for what had happened. She said she was ready to forgive him, but the legal case against all responsible parties would continue to the fullest extent of the law. Before leaving, Mae Phat said she felt relieved that her case had prompted several agencies to intervene and rescue elderly patients and patients suffering at the Sothornchai Home, and that it had led to nationwide inspections of similar facilities to prevent any recurrence.
