Muay Thai Fighter Ejected For Match-Fixing For 200,000 Baht
Muay Thai fighter Pichit Suek was ejected from a July 16 Rajdamnern Stadium bout for deliberately throwing the fight after accepting 200,000 baht from an underground gambler, with authorities vowing prosecution.
Pichit Suek from Thammasat Khlong Luang School was removed from the ring by the referee in the fourth round of his fight against Phleng Phayakkhot of Phayakkhot Phu Luang camp for unsportsmanlike conduct. The bout took place on July 16 at Rajdamnern Stadium during the Petchyindee Championship, with spectators booing from the opening round.
After the match, promoter "Siao Boat" Natthadej Vachirratanawong spoke with the fighter, who confessed that he had been hired by an underground gambler called "Whaeng" to intentionally lose the bout in exchange for 200,000 baht. Pichit Suek admitted to having already received 30,000-40,000 baht of the promised amount.
"Siao Boat" confirmed: "The fighter admitted to deliberately throwing the fight for 200,000 baht, having received part of the payment already. We have taken him into police custody to file charges and make this a precedent case to jail the person who hired him to fix the match."
The promoter added: "Fighters must have honor and integrity. Muay Thai is already in decline, and this makes it worse. I am asking the police at Nang Loeng station to pursue this case as an example to punish those who destroy the sport and send them to prison."
