The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) is proceeding with its mission to promote and develop Thai sports, preparing to grant 3.5 million baht to the Thailand Bowling Association for fiscal year 2026 under the 'One Sports Association, One State Enterprise' project. This aims to elevate the potential of Thai bowling athletes, develop personnel and competition management systems, and drive Thai athletes toward international success.
The grant ceremony was presided over by MWA Governor Suwara Thawichsri, with Thailand Bowling Association President Somphan Charumilint accepting the funds alongside Secretary-General Suwalai Satruli and national team athletes. The event took place on October 28, 2026, at the Piyarat Meeting Room, 6th floor, Sutthithararak Building, MWA Headquarters.
This support is part of a four-year memorandum of understanding (2024-2027) between MWA and the Thailand Bowling Association, focusing on systematic and continuous development of Thai bowling across administration, athlete capacity building, competition organization, and sending athletes to various tournaments.
Governor Suwara Thawichsri expressed delight at MWA's continuous support since 2006, noting this year's 3.5 million baht will fund athlete training, equipment procurement, and domestic and international competitions. Of particular importance is the Asian Bowling Championship in Doha, Qatar this December, a crucial qualifier for world-level competitions. MWA hopes this support will help Thai bowling achieve excellence, continuously upgrade athlete capabilities, and ultimately bring honor to Thailand on the world stage.
Association President Somphan Charumilint thanked MWA for its sustained support and pledged to utilize the funds effectively for competitions and international athlete deployment. He revealed that Thai athletes will compete at the Asian Bowling Championship in Doha from November 13-22 to qualify for the 2027 World Bowling Championship, needing a top-nine finish to secure a spot.
Additionally, the association has major events lined up for 2027: the MWA Thailand Championship (February 14-28), hosting the Senior World Bowling Championship in April, the Thailand International Open in July, and the SEA Games in Malaysia which includes bowling. These represent significant responsibilities for the association.
