Nan Flood Waters Moving Toward Central and Lower Zones
Floodwaters from Pua district in Nan province are advancing toward central and lower zones, with satellite forecasting giving residents advance warning to prepare and relocate valuables before water reaches downstream areas.
On August 19, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) released the latest flood forecast data from its Check Water application, which analyzes satellite and geospatial data to assess water flow patterns and trends. The analysis detected risks of sudden flooding and flash floods in Pua district, Nan province, with modeling showing that the water mass from Pua will gradually flow into the central and lower areas of Nan province before continuing into Phrae province.
The forecast is based on high-accuracy, reliable satellite data from GISTDA, providing an early warning before the water mass reaches downstream areas. This advance notice gives residents along the water's path sufficient time to move belongings to higher elevations, relocate vehicles, and care for elderly family members and pets. GISTDA urges affected communities to remain calm but to use this time to prepare, and advises residents to monitor the water movement and their local area in real time 24 hours a day through the Check Water app. The app is available for download on both iOS and Android platforms.
