Natchaa Songkaen swept six titles at Thailand's track cycling national championships Round 2 at Bangkok's Huamark Velodrome, with rising star cyclist dominating the Queen Sirikit Cup competition May 1-3.
Rising star cyclist Natchaa Songkaen from the Fisherman's Friend Chiang Mai team dominated the track cycling national championships Round 2 for the Queen Sirikit Cup 2025, sweeping six events. Thai national team sprinter Chai Angsuthasawit from Fisherman's Friend Rama 3, preparing for the 20th Asian Games, captured the men's open sprint title as anticipated. Live broadcasts across Facebook and YouTube reached over 8,000 total viewers.
The track cycling national championships Round 2 took place May 1-3 at the Velodrome at Thailand Sports Authority (กกท.) in Huamark. The final day on May 3 featured 25 gold medals with live coverage on Thailand Cycling Association Facebook, TCA Channel, and YouTube.
General Decha Mekrasri, Vice President of Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of Thailand Cycling Association, revealed that this Round 2 demonstrated excellent progress from promising young athletes poised to become future national team strength, particularly Natchaa Songkaen, who swept five titles on the final day alone, plus one previous championship totaling six titles. Other youth and junior athletes also performed well. If track cycling is included in the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal in October-November, athletes aged 15-17 with strong results will be considered for competition.
Mekrasri noted the cycling association sent two Thai national team cyclists—Captain Vorawuth Prapkratot and Apisara Srimongkhon—to compete in two consecutive track cycling championships: Indonesia Track Cup 1 (April 30-May 2), where both performed satisfactorily, finishing in the top 5 of multiple events despite no medals. Both will compete in Indonesia Track Cup 2 (May 4-6).
The association will also send sprint cyclists to accumulate points for the 2028 Olympic quota, including Chai Angsuthasawit and Captain Naresaratda Boonma competing in two major events in Japan: Japan Track Cup 1 (May 14-15) and Japan Track Cup 2 (May 15-16), competing in keirin and individual sprint as preparation for the 20th Asian Games in Japan (September 19-October 4).
