Nestle Invests 6.4 Billion Baht in Thai Pet Food Plant
Nestlé receives Thai investment approval to expand pet food production with over 6.4 billion baht in investment at Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong, reinforcing Thailand's position as the world's second-largest pet food exporter.
The Board of Investment has approved Nestle (Thailand) Limited's request for investment promotion to expand its pet food production base at Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong, with total investment exceeding 6.4 billion baht. The investment comprises two projects: a pet food production facility worth approximately 4.5 billion baht and a pet treats production facility worth approximately 1.93 billion baht. Both projects meet international food safety standards and prioritize the use of domestic raw materials for export.
The expansion aims to meet rising global demand for pet food. Thailand currently ranks as the world's second-largest exporter of pet food after Germany, with the industry growing steadily at more than 8 percent annually. Over 90 percent of the investment's output will be exported to major markets including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
Both projects will use high proportions of domestic raw materials, totaling more than 450 million baht in value annually. The pet food production line, under the brands Felix, Pro Plan, and Friskies, will source approximately 56 percent of ingredients domestically, including chicken, sardine, vegetables, oils, vitamins, and minerals. The pet treats line, focusing on cat treats under the Purina One and Felix brands, will source approximately 88 percent of ingredients locally, including chicken, sugar, and cassava flour.
Nestle (Thailand) Limited, part of Switzerland-based Nestle S.A., has operated in Thailand since 1993 and has continuously received investment promotion from the Board of Investment. The company produces well-known Thai consumer brands including Nescafé, Milo, Maggi, and Nestle ice cream, alongside pet food brands such as Purina One, Felix, Pro Plan, Friskies, Alpo, and Supercoat.
The investment reflects Thailand's strength as a production base for food and beverages serving global markets. Combined with a previously approved coffee factory project, Nestle will invest more than 29 billion baht in Thailand in 2025 alone, covering both coffee and pet food businesses. The expansion also strengthens links between agriculture and industry through the use of Thai raw materials including coffee beans, raw milk, sugar, chicken, fish, and vegetables, valued at over 4.7 billion baht annually, supporting local farmers and elevating Thailand's agricultural and food industry to international standards.
