Opposition Probes Senator's Conflicting Business History
9 Aug Khaosod

On August 9 at Parliament, the opposition parties' coordination committee, led by Prit Watcharasindhoo, held a session scrutinizing evidence in a Senate corruption case involving four senators and financial irregularities. Yiangcheep Atcharnnon, director of the Internet Law Project, presented findings showing Senator Sompaan Plaisak of Amnat Charoen claimed a 12-year history selling chicken-green mango noodles, but investigation revealed his noodle shop had been a fitness center, then changed to fish noodles, and later duck noodles—with the business operating only since 2015, less than ten years. Yiangcheep questioned whether Sompaan truly owned the business and met the ten-year experience requirement, noting the shop owner, Siripol Ruengboon, a local councilor, appeared in photos with a Bhumjaithai Party MP. He also revealed that multiple senators appointed close relatives and associates as aides across party lines—Sompaan appointed his son Nathpong as aide to another senator, and appointed Saiw Chammanon as an expert despite sharing the same surname—and called for public scrutiny of similar patterns across other provinces.

Teen Shot at Bangkok School Files Report, Denies Knowing Gunman

Teen Shot at Bangkok School Files Report, Denies Knowing Gunman
9 Aug Khaosod

On August 9 at 3 p.m., the parents of a 13-year-old seventh-grade student injured in a shooting at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi filed a police report and handed over evidence including the boy's shirt with a bullet hole near the collar. The student was shot in the left cheek by another student but narrowly survived, as the bullet grazed him.

According to the mother's account, the boy attended school as usual that day. During the shooting incident, he was seeking shelter when he inadvertently encountered the gunman and was struck by a bullet. It remains unclear whether the shooter intended to hit the boy directly or if it was stray fire.

The parents firmly stated they had no prior acquaintance with the shooter, who attended a different grade level. Although the boy remains frightened after the incident, he is trying to stay strong, and his mother is providing close emotional support.

When asked about threatening social media messages predicting violence on August 17-18, the mother dismissed them as likely fake news. She appealed to parents and the public to consume news responsibly, suggesting the posts are social media manipulation. She also defended the school, saying it bears no fault and has stringent security measures in place. As an educator herself, she maintains confidence in the school's protocols. Regarding a Thai language teacher mentioned online, the mother confirmed her son had studied with this teacher but experienced no problems.

The father expressed concern about the spread of false reports and threats of further violence on social media, and urged people to stop sharing such misinformation. He also asked that people refrain from blaming the deceased—whether a teacher or student—for allegedly triggering the 14-year-old gunman's actions.

A heartwarming viral story has emerged after a Malaysian woman shared photos of her creative husband, who greets her at the airport in different mascot costumes every time she returns from out-of-town work assignments. Amira posted on Threads that her husband meets her at the airport with flowers and, uniquely, wears a different mascot costume each time to bring a smile to her face and help her forget her travel and work fatigue. The photos show him dressed in various costumes including Rilakkuma, No-Face, dinosaurs, and frogs, with none of them ever repeated.

In a humorous caption, Amira joked that "my husband wears a mascot costume every time he picks me up at the airport after I return from long work trips away. If he just brought flowers, there would be no problem, but when he shows up in a mascot costume too, I worry people might get the wrong idea." When interviewed by World of Buzz, Amira explained that wearing the mascot costumes is her husband's way of making her smile and helping her forget the exhaustion from traveling and working.

"To be honest, I never asked him to buy flowers or wear a mascot costume to pick me up," she said. "But my husband always tries to do everything he can to make me happy and help me forget my tiredness." She concluded by sending well-wishes to everyone who has read and enjoyed her story, hoping they all find the right life partner at the right time and experience lives filled with happiness and love.

Thai Bodybuilder Accuses Israeli Tourists of Disrupting Hotel at 2 AM
9 Aug Khaosod

On August 9, 2026, Toon Veegan, or Prakasit Krueabut, a national bodybuilding athlete, posted angrily after foreign tourists identified as Israeli nationals allegedly harassed him in the early morning at a hotel in the Pratunam area of Bangkok.

Toon recounted that he was peacefully sleeping at the hotel around 2 AM when a group of people suddenly banged heavily on his room door four times with tremendous force while he and his wife were sound asleep. The group was laughing loudly, shouting, and talking boisterously without regard for others. After a while, he heard them slam their room door loudly.

He called the hotel to complain and was told the group was Israeli tourists. "People often speak negatively about you," Toon wrote, "and only defenders come to your aid. But today I've witnessed with my own eyes what you're really like. Don't bother me. You've startled and frightened my beloved wife, fearing someone might harm us."

Toon expressed his frustration, saying: "I won't tolerate this. This is Thailand, this is my home. Show some respect to the owner of the house. I'm awake now and exhausted. Soon I'll make a proper video criticizing them. Just wait and see. How dare you traumatize my beloved wife's emotions. I'll prepare a video for you. Stay tuned."

Toon Veegan, or Prakasit Krueabut, is a Thai national bodybuilding athlete and world champion who made history by following a 100% plant-based vegan diet. He has proven that abstaining from meat consumption allows one to build muscle and achieve world championship status.

Notable achievements: Thai national bodybuilding champion in the sports physique category (Mr. Thailand) in 2019; World bodybuilding champion in 2022; works as a health consultant and inspirational figure online, strictly avoiding all animal-derived products for over 10 years.

Veera Attacks Anutin Over Wall-Running Post, Cites Corruption

Pheu Thai deputy leader Veera Kanjchuchatro attacked PM Anutin's cryptic social media post, arguing the "wall" Thais hit daily is government corruption and electoral fraud that the administration normalizes rather than addresses.

Veera Attacks Anutin Over Wall-Running Post, Cites Corruption
9 Aug Khaosod

On August 9, 2024, Veera Kanjchuchatro, a Pheu Thai party-list MP and deputy party leader, posted a Facebook response after Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul posted a message saying "running headfirst into a wall every day, but the wall just gets taller and thicker. If we keep running into it, it will only hurt more."

Veraa argued that the wall Thais face daily is corruption, election fraud, fuel hoarding schemes, civil service exam cheating, and parliamentary wheeling and dealing—all issues the government is normalizing and turning into part of Thai society itself.

"Anutin's strength is his fearlessness about political circumstances and his indifference to public opinion," Veera stated. "Whenever the country faces problems, Anutin simply runs to the top, and his subordinates scramble to deflect and shift the political narrative, which has apparently worked well consistently."

Veraa added that the government also allows favored technocrats to queue for power within the system, taking the stage to showcase visions of economic transformation—AI data centers, medical hubs—designed to make people forget the intensifying corruption that has become entrenched in the system. This, he concluded, means the wall will only grow ever higher without end.

Thailand Wins Best Travel Destination at Weibo Gala 2026

Thailand won the Best Travel Destination Country award at Weibo Gala 2026 in Bangkok, reinforcing Chinese travellers' confidence in the kingdom as a regional cultural and tourism hub.

9 Aug TAT Newsroom

Bangkok, 9 August 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) highlighted the enduring ties and expanding cultural exchange between Thailand and China at Weibo Gala 2026: Weibo Cultural Communication Night. Held on 8 August at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, the gala brought together Thai and Chinese artists, creators, media, brands and audiences across culture, entertainment, fashion, lifestyle and tourism, reinforcing Chinese travellers’ confidence in Thailand and the country’s role as a regional hub for culture, entertainment and soft power.

Organised by Weibo and Hydroindus, with Be On Cloud serving as the official Thailand host, the programme featured sponsor activations, a red-carpet ceremony with participating artists and celebrities, an awards presentation across nine segments, and an after-party. The gala recognised individuals and organisations whose work in entertainment, culture and communications strengthens connections between Thailand and China, with appearances by Chinese actors He Changxi and He Yanzhao, Thai actor Apo Nattawin and Butterbear.

Among the gala’s headline honours, Thailand received the Weibo Thailand Best Travel Destination Country award, accepted by Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor. The recognition reinforces Chinese travellers’ trust in Thailand and reflects the tourism sector’s collective commitment to raising standards and welcoming visitors from around the world to experience Amazing Thailand.

Ms. Thapanee said, “This award affirms the confidence Chinese travellers continue to place in Thailand and represents a shared achievement for our tourism sector and communities nationwide. TAT will build on this trust by connecting Chinese audiences with the diversity of Amazing Thailand, from culture and cuisine to nature, wellness, sport and festivals. We thank Weibo for extending Thailand’s reach through digital platforms and inspiring more travellers to experience the country.”

The collaboration extends beyond the gala through reciprocal Vlog filming in Thailand and China. He Changxi and He Yanzhao will experience Ko Samet in Rayong and the Song Wat–Talat Noi neighbourhoods in Bangkok, while Apo Nattawin and Butterbear will travel to China for filming. The content will present the culture, cuisine, ways of life and destinations of both countries through Weibo and the social reach of participating artists, strengthening people-to-people connections and stimulating travel among Chinese visitors, artist fan communities, influencers and Weibo users.

Across the gala and related digital programme, TAT is combining entertainment, artist-led storytelling and digital media to broaden Thailand’s visibility in China and convert audience interest into travel demand. Distribution through Weibo, official event channels, participating artists, influencers, media and partners is projected to generate at least 20 million impressions across event-related topics and content.

The initiative complements marketing by TAT’s five offices in China under Amazing Thailand, The Journey Your Heart Leads, and the “Zhong Tai Yi Jia Qin” – China and Thailand are one family framework, supporting confidence, long-term affinity and travel demand among quality Chinese travellers.

Boiled-Food Diets Risk Gallbladder Damage, Stones

Extremely low-fat diets centered on boiled foods can damage the gallbladder and increase gallstone risk by preventing normal bile release, warns Dr. Zhao Weirou. Healthy weight loss requires balanced nutrition with moderate amounts of healt

Cutting Fat Through Boiled Food Diets Risks Gallbladder Problems, Warns Specialist

Many people pursuing weight loss have turned to restrictive diets centered on simple foods like boiled chicken breast, steamed vegetables, and egg whites—with no oil or sauces added. However, this approach is raising concerns among gastroenterologists and liver specialists. Dr. Zhao Weirou notes that while people may feel they are eating "clean," such extremely low-fat regimens can prevent the gallbladder from functioning or contracting normally over extended periods, increasing the risk of bile sludge and gallstone formation.

Dr. Zhao explains a common misconception about fat reduction: the gallbladder is not a useless organ but rather stores bile. When dietary fat is consumed, the body signals the gallbladder to contract and release bile to aid digestion. The gallbladder does not need to avoid fat entirely; instead, it needs to contract and release bile regularly. Prolonged very-low-fat dieting combined with severe calorie restriction reduces gallbladder contractions, allowing bile to accumulate internally. Rapid weight loss over a short period can alter bile composition and further increase the risk of sludge and stones.

Not an Excuse to Eat Fried Foods

Dr. Zhao emphasizes that this advice does not mean weight-loss dieters should switch to fried chicken or greasy foods. The key to healthy fat reduction is not eliminating fat to zero but choosing appropriate fats in proper portions. Sustainable long-term weight loss should not consist solely of dry boiled chicken breast. A balanced lunch should include vegetables, protein, natural carbohydrates, and small amounts of healthy fat—for example, chicken with vegetables and sweet potato drizzled with a little olive oil, or salmon with steamed vegetables and brown rice. Tofu, eggs, and vegetables supplemented with small portions of nuts is another option.

Five Warning Signs During Weight Loss That Warrant Gallbladder Screening

Dr. Zhao warns that if these symptoms appear during weight loss, do not assume they are only stomach or intestinal issues; consider getting a gallbladder ultrasound:

• Pain or tightness in the upper right abdomen • Discomfort or worsening symptoms after eating fatty food • Nausea and bloating • Sharp pain radiating to the right shoulder or back • Rapid weight loss over a short period

Finally, Dr. Zhao stresses that boiled or low-fat foods are not inherently harmful. What may damage health is prolonged consumption of very-low-fat foods, excessive calorie restriction, and rapid weight loss. Adequate fat intake stimulates normal gallbladder contractions and bile release. Healthy fat reduction should accompany normal gallbladder and digestive system function, not eliminate dietary fat entirely.
