Packed Tour Bus Crashes into 18-Wheel Truck After Sudden Lane Change, 27 Injured
A tour bus from Nong Khai to Bangkok collided with a gravel truck after the truck suddenly changed lanes on a Khon Kaen highway, injuring 27 of the 49 people on board.
A tour bus traveling from Nong Khai to Bangkok collided with a fully-loaded 18-wheel truck carrying gravel on Mitrkha Road near Tha Phra-Kosoom intersection in Khon Kaen at 11:10 PM on April 26. The truck suddenly changed lanes, causing the tour bus (registration 15-9658) traveling in the right lane to brake too late and crash heavily into it. The driver's side of the bus sustained severe damage. Emergency responders from multiple agencies extracted 27 injured passengers from the bus registration 15-9658 and transported them to Khon Kaen Center Hospital, Si Nakharin Hospital, and Sirindhron Hospital. Another 22 passengers declined hospital treatment. The tour bus was carrying 49 passengers and staff total, having picked up passengers from Si Chiang Mai District in Nong Khai province destined for Bangkok, with an additional stop at Khon Kaen Bus Station 3 before the crash. Police from Tha Phra Station are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
