Parents File Police Report Over Fake China Study Tour
Parents from three schools filed a police report after a fraudulent study tour to China left 45 students stranded at Suvarnabhumi Airport, each losing nearly 40,000 baht. The organizer had promised flights and accommodation through a claimed MOU with Xi’an Jiaotong University but provided none, and refunds have not been fully paid.
The fake study tour, advertised as a short-term course from 15 to 26 October, claimed to have an MOU with Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and charged 39,900 baht per student. Forty-five students from three schools in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Chonburi had paid a total of 1,795,500 baht, with funds transferred through the organizer’s teacher account. On 11 October the organizer said the Xi’an dormitory could not accommodate the group and changed the destination to Beijing, instructing everyone to meet at Suvarnabhumi Airport on 15 October at 3:00 pm for a ThaiVietJet flight scheduled at 6:20 pm. When the group arrived, they were told no tickets existed; ThaiVietJet confirmed the flight could not be taken. Parents confronted the organizer, who promised a full refund that day but ultimately failed to repay some schools fully, while others received nothing.
