Police Seize 700k Meth Pills After Chiang Rai Chase
Chiang Rai police and provincial officials chased down a suspicious pickup truck that evaded a checkpoint, leading to the seizure of roughly 700,000 methamphetamine tablets. The abandoned vehicle was found loaded with four sacks of drugs, and evidence has been sent for forensic analysis. Investigators are tracing the truck’s owner and pursuing members of the drug network.
The operation began at 7:00 pm on October 15 when Mae Chan district officials set up a checkpoint on Highway 1089 after receiving a tip about a drug-laden vehicle. Around 9:40 pm, officers spotted a black Toyota Vigo pickup with a Chiang Rai license plate attempting to bypass the checkpoint. When signaled to stop, the driver accelerated and fled, prompting a high-speed pursuit. The truck was later found abandoned on a public road in Ban Si Yang Chum, Moo 13, Tha Kao Ploeuk subdistrict. Inside, officers discovered four sacks containing about 700,000 meth tablets. Evidence was collected, fingerprints taken, and the case forwarded to Mae Chan police investigators. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and working to identify the vehicle’s owner and any accomplices. The seizure prevented a large quantity of drugs from reaching inland areas.
