Police Seize 3 Million Meth Pills After Chiang Rai Chase
Police in Chiang Rai seized about three million methamphetamine tablets after a high‑speed chase ended with the suspect’s car crashing off the road. The 41‑year‑old driver, Wanchai, was arrested and the drugs were found in 15 backpack‑style sacks inside the vehicle. The suspect and evidence have been turned over to narcotics investigators for prosecution.
Police from Narcotics Suppression Bureau Division 3 and the Phra Mueang Task Force received intelligence that a large shipment of methamphetamine would be moved from Mueang Chiang Rai district to the central region. They intercepted a gray Toyota sedan with Chiang Rai license plates on the Den Ha–Dong Madang road around 8:45 p.m. When officers moved in to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated and fled. The car later skidded off the road beside an irrigation canal in Ban Pa O Donchai, Mueang Chiang Rai, and came to a stop. Officers arrested the driver, identified as 41‑year‑old Wanchai (surname withheld). Inside the car they found 15 white‑plastic woven sacks converted into backpacks containing approximately 3,082,000 methamphetamine tablets. The suspect and the evidence were handed over to investigators from Narcotics Suppression Bureau Division 3 for further legal action.
