Parliament Speaker Denies Blocking Senate Case Debate
House Speaker Somphon Saramun denied claims he blocked debate on a Senate case, insisting parliamentarians have constitutional rights to discuss any topic during a no-confidence motion.
At 9:50 a.m. on September 15, 2025, at parliament, House Speaker Somphon Saramun addressed claims that he had moved to prevent discussion of a Senate case during a no-confidence debate. Somphon strongly denied the allegation, stating: "Where did I block anything? I haven't said a word about this. I don't even know what will be submitted. Don't cause confusion. I haven't said anything. I don't even know if there will be a debate or not. I've only seen it in the media that a debate might be submitted. I haven't said a word."
When asked whether parliamentarians could discuss Senate matters if a no-confidence motion is filed, Somphon said that any topic related to a no-confidence debate is entirely within MPs' rights to discuss, as guaranteed by the constitution.
Regarding September 16, when the Election Commission report and the southern border petition are scheduled for consideration, Somphon confirmed the deadline will not be postponed. "Let's get it done on September 16," he said. "Let's finish the discussion. Otherwise, we'll be stuck forever."
