Parliamentary Committee Prepares to Question PM on Flood Management
Thailand’s Public Safety Committee will meet to discuss flood situations in Ayutthaya and Nonthaburi and plans to submit a live question to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul over the government’s flood response. Committee chair Pattharaphong Lilaphat criticized inconsistent information from state agencies and warned that flood warnings remain inadequate. He urged the premier to improve coordination and disaster preparedness to protect the public.
At 09:20 on 1 October 2026 at Parliament, Pattharaphong Lilaphat, MP for Chiang Mai from the People's Party and chair of the Public Safety Committee, said the committee’s morning session would focus on water data from Ayutthaya Province, noting that while local residents are ready, accurate information is needed to plan evacuations. In the afternoon the committee will turn to the flood situation in Nonthaburi Province, with Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, list-MP and leader of the People's Party who also serves as opposition leader in the House, attending the meeting. Pattharaphong added that he intends to submit a live question to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul concerning the water crisis and the government’s disaster management, which he says falls short of the standard the public deserves, citing submerged cars in Bangkok that should not have occurred. He stressed that disaster preparedness should be maximized to reduce risks, and that the government must answer today how it will improve coordination between agencies responsible for flood relief and disaster prevention, criticizing the current fragmented response and inadequate early-warning systems that have failed to learn from past events in the South, North, Central and Eastern regions.
