Prime Minister Acting Swiftly on Flooding Crisis, Coalition Chair Says
Parliament convenes September 30 as scheduled to address nationwide flooding through emergency motions, with the PM prioritizing relief efforts and recovery over public perception.
On September 28, Kraiwet Parisananantkul, Ang Thong MP and Bhumjaithai party member, speaking as chair of the government coalition coordination committee, said Parliament will convene as scheduled on September 30 and October 1-2, expecting the Bangkok and regional flooding situation to ease by then. Kraiwet said he has called a coalition meeting on September 30 to discuss urgent agenda items, including an emergency motion on flooding impacts and solutions, allowing MPs to voice local concerns and recommendations directly to the government for targeted relief efforts. The emergency motion will be presented for consideration on September 30, as the flooding affects multiple areas nationwide. The government will also coordinate with Parliament to hear problems and suggestions.
When asked about public dissatisfaction with the government's flood response, Kraiwet noted that Prime Minister Anuthiun was abroad when the crisis began but assigned ministers to monitor the situation continuously. After returning, the Prime Minister visited affected areas and immediately issued relief orders using the central budget. Kraiwet said the government's priority now is rapid recovery and rehabilitation to restore normal life for flood victims. "The government is working at full capacity right now, putting solving people's problems first, not popularity," he said.
Kraiwet acknowledged complaints about delayed warnings and underestimated threat assessments, saying improvements will follow. He expressed confidence that Parliament will raise these issues for relevant agencies to address and adjust their procedures accordingly.
