Thai Railways Shut Flooded Line Over Bridge Safety Fears
Heavy monsoon flooding has forced Thai Railways to suspend services on the Kanchanaburi line after floodwaters submerged bridge supports at Tham Kham, affecting four daily trains between Bangkok and Nam Tok.
The State Railway of Thailand announced the temporary shutdown on September 28 following heavy rain across much of Thailand, particularly in the western region of Kanchanaburi Province. Floodwaters at Tham Kham Bridge, located between Khao Yai and Nam Tok stations, have risen 4 meters and submerged the bridge supports, compromising the structural safety of the line. The railway determined it is unsafe for trains to proceed through the section.
Four train services are affected: outbound Local Train 485 (Kanchanaburi–Nam Tok) and Ordinary Train 257 (Thonburi–Nam Tok), and return services Ordinary Train 260 and Ordinary Train 258 (both Nam Tok–Thonburi). Passengers holding tickets for affected services can receive full refunds at any railway station nationwide. The State Railway will continue monitoring water levels and weather conditions and may adjust the schedule as needed, prioritizing passenger and staff safety.
