Senate Schedules October 1 Vote on Bankruptcy Bill
Thailand's Senate will vote on a revised Bankruptcy Bill on October 1 after the House approved joint committee amendments, with rejection forcing a 180-day suspension of the legislation.
Senate President Mongkol Suratthassaj has called a special Senate session for October 1 to vote on the revised Bankruptcy Bill following joint committee amendments. If the Senate does not approve the bill, it must be shelved for 180 days. The Senate office announced the special session after cancelling the original September 28-29 meeting due to severe flooding in Bangkok and its vicinity, which prompted Cabinet declaration of special holidays. The October 1 agenda will include urgent questions, general questions, and the critical Bankruptcy Bill that has completed joint committee review between both houses. Last week, the House of Representatives approved the joint committee's revisions to the bill. The Senate must now vote on whether to accept the joint committee's amendments; approval will advance the bill to enactment, but rejection will suspend it for 180 days.
