Parliament Wraps Budget Debate Today; South Motion Next Week
Parliament is wrapping up debate on Thailand's fiscal year 2570 budget today by 7 p.m., with a southern border security motion and Election Commission discussion scheduled for next week.
House Speaker Sophon Sarirum announced that government and opposition coalition leadership have agreed to complete debate on the fiscal year 2570 budget in readings 2-3 by 7 p.m. today. At 11:45 a.m. on September 10, 2569, the House of Representatives convened to consider the fiscal year 2570 budget bill under Sophon's chairmanship.
Before discussing section 28 on provincial and regional allocations, the Speaker informed the chamber that government and opposition whips have agreed to conclude budget deliberation today. Opposition members will have 6 hours, while government speaking time will be managed by the government whip as needed.
On debate procedures, the chamber agreed to follow the standard set over the past three days: sections with heavy debate or objections will be handled consistently, allowing some discussion outside formal reading 2 given consideration for lawmakers' concerns. If objections arise, the chair retains discretion to end debate. The agreement targets completion around 7 p.m.
No session is scheduled for September 11, but additional special meetings will be added in the following two weeks—one day per week—to consider urgent legislation. Next week will also address critical motions: one on security problems in the southern border provinces and another acknowledging the Election Commission's report.
