Parliament to Debate Fiscal Year 2570 Budget Cuts
Parliament will debate the Fiscal Year 2570 budget on September 7–9, with over 11 billion baht in cuts redirected from ministries to central reserves and independent agencies, with the Natural Resources Ministry facing the largest reduction
Parliament Speaker Sophon Saramun has called a parliamentary session for September 7–9, 2569, to debate the Fiscal Year 2570 budget bill in readings 2 and 3, with cuts of more than 11.162 billion baht to be redirected to central reserves, revolving funds, independent agencies, and the State Audit Office. Following committee review, the draft law received 154 amendment proposals, two of which were withdrawn. The total budget remains at 3.788 trillion baht, with reductions distributed across nearly all ministries: the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment faces the largest cut of 3.278 billion baht, followed by the Ministry of Defence at 1.228 billion baht and the Ministry of Interior at 912 million baht. Increases have been approved for central budget allocation at 6.044 billion baht, revolving capital funds at 4.5 billion baht, independent agencies and the Public Prosecutor's Office at 247 million baht, and smaller allocations to the Office of the Prime Minister (97 million baht), the Ministry of Education (96 million baht), Parliament (24 million baht), and the civil service personnel scheme (3 million baht).
