The Peruvian Embassy celebrates Peru's 205th independence anniversary with a traditional dance flashmob at Siam Paragon in Bangkok on August 4th, featuring the nation's iconic Marinera, Valicha, and UNESCO-recognized Scissors Dance.
The Peruvian Embassy in Thailand and Siam Paragon are hosting a Peruvian Traditional Dance Flashmob to commemorate the 205th anniversary of Peru's independence on August 4th at Park Paragon, M Floor, Siam Paragon, from 5:00 PM. The event showcases three iconic Peruvian dances: Marinera Nortena (Peru's national dance), Valicha, and Danza de Tijeras (Scissors Dance).
Marinera Nortena is celebrated as Peru's national dance, known for its graceful movements, lively rhythm, and subtle courtship storytelling between men and women. The performances will feature the distinctive sound of the Peruvian cajón and are presented by Sol y Luna Peruvian Dance School from Japan. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn basic Marinera steps and participate in flashmob activities.
Valicha, one of Cusco's most famous traditional songs and dances, will be performed in vibrant indigenous costumes reflecting the joy and cultural richness of the Andes. The highlight will be Danza de Tijeras (Scissors Dance), a distinctive Peruvian highland performance UNESCO recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. The performance will be showcased by Joseph Paucarima, a renowned Peruvian scissors dancer based in Spain, demonstrating exceptional technique, strength, and endurance. The Peruvian Embassy invites all interested individuals to experience the charm, beauty, and diversity of Peruvian culture on August 4th, 2025 at 5:00 PM at Park Paragon.
