Pharmacy Staffed by 19-Year-Old Found Selling Tramadol and Cough Syrup to Local Teenagers
A pharmacy in Mae Ramat District was found selling tramadol and cough syrup to teenagers, with authorities discovering 770 tramadol tablets and 136 bottles of syrup during a raid targeting a 19-year-old employee.
On May 11, Mae Ramat District Officer Prinyacha Sairojn received a report of illegal sales of tramadol (tramadol), commonly called 'yellow-green pills' by teenagers, a pain reliever and controlled substance often misused by mixing with cough syrup to create an addictive concoction. An undercover operation was authorized to purchase drugs from a pharmacy located in central Mae Ramat on Highway 105 between Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts. After confirming the illegal sales, authorities from multiple agencies including district administration, Mae Ramat Police Station, ranger forces from the 35th Ranger Regiment, and public health officials conducted a search. Officers reported that the pharmacy appeared normal during the initial search, with standard medication storage and medical equipment on the second floor. However, on the third floor, authorities discovered 77 packages of tramadol containing 770 tablets and 136 bottles of cough syrup. The 19-year-old Thai male employee managing the pharmacy was questioned but claimed he was only responsible for overseeing the store. The tramadol and cough syrup were seized for further investigation.
