Pickup Truck Crashes in Heavy Rain, One Dead, 11 Injured
A pickup truck lost control in heavy rain on a Chanthaburi highway, crashing into a utility pole and flipping into a drainage ditch, killing one elderly woman and injuring 11 others.
On July 12, 2569, the Sawaengkatanyu rescue radio center in Chanthaburi received reports of a pickup truck that lost control in heavy rain, crashing into a utility pole and speed camera on Highway 317 between Chanthaburi and Sa Kaew heading into town near Patawi Subdistrict Municipality office in Mueang District, Chanthaburi Province. The vehicle flipped and fell into the central drainage ditch with standing water. Emergency responders immediately treated 10 injured persons at the scene and transported 11 total injured to Mueang Hospital.
Deputy Inspector Pramot Kongnantak of Mueang Police Station investigated and found a white Isuzu Dmax pickup truck with Chanthaburi license plates. The front was severely damaged from collisions with the utility pole and speed camera, extending into the cabin. The vehicle had overturned into the drainage ditch filled with floodwater.
Initial investigation found one elderly female fatality with her body submerged in water beside the vehicle. Of the 11 injured—four male and seven female including the driver—rescue officials categorized them as two critical cases, three moderate cases, and six minor cases before transporting them to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation revealed the group was traveling from Soydao District to perform merit-making at a meditation center in Tha Chang Subdistrict. Heavy rainfall during the journey caused zero visibility, causing the truck to lose control and collide with the utility pole before striking the speed camera and flipping into the drainage ditch. Passengers in the truck bed were ejected, while those in the cabin were trapped inside. Police documented the scene and evidence, preparing to interview victims and witnesses to determine the exact cause of the accident.
