Police Chief Suspends Officers in Teen Beating Investigation
A viral video showing police officers beating a teenager prompted Ban Pet Police Station to suspend multiple officers from patrol duty pending a 15-day investigation into the incident.
After a viral video showed patrol officers beating a teenage boy until he bled, Ban Pet Police Station has suspended the officers from patrol duty and assigned them to other duties while an investigation proceeds. Major Phakaphoomi Detcharoensilp, the station commander, disclosed on August 3 that the victim filed a complaint on August 1. The victim has not yet been able to identify which officer or unit was responsible, only that it was a police officer. The victim underwent injury examination at a hospital and will be called for detailed follow-up testimony once ready. A fact-finding committee chaired by Deputy Commander Chonthum Nilthamorn has been established with a 15-day deadline for conclusions. Several officers on duty that night were questioned and placed on temporary suspension from patrol work, reassigned to other station duties pending the completion of the investigation. Preliminary investigation found the victim was part of a group that had been at the marsh location for some time, but the exact duration is unclear. Authorities are still determining whether the group was making noise, as residents in the Nong Khoet Marsh area had called police that night reporting a group of youths gathered there drinking alcohol.
