The Anti-Corruption Police launched an operation on September 11 to expand their investigation following allegations that state officials may have been involved in a scheme to solicit money from job applicants by falsely claiming they could influence local government recruitment exams. Phu Yai Heng, an ex-Pheu Thai parliamentary candidate whose full name is being withheld, was initially arrested on charges related to the extortion scheme.
Deputy Police Chief General Jaroon Kiatkaew led the operation that placed two DSI officers under investigation. One officer was detained in Si Racha district, Chachoengsao province, while the other was taken into custody in Bangkok. Both were brought to the Anti-Corruption Police headquarters for intensive questioning, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and preparing to file formal charges.
On September 2, Justice Minister Rutthapol Naorat revealed that the DSI director had ordered an immediate disciplinary investigation panel to examine the two officers' potential involvement in the case. The National Police and National Anti-Corruption Commission have been investigating the primary case, while the DSI is pursuing a wider inquiry into corruption in local government recruitment to determine if other individuals were party to the scheme.
Police are continuing their investigation pending additional witness statements and evidence before deciding on formal charges against the two DSI officers.
